Hey, its HBO, Larry and Jim. Don't be so sensitive.
Larry's an animal. Thats his act. If you don't like it, turn down the volume.
Until then, let the talent do what it does.Comment

Thats the most hilarious thing I've ever heard.and my god larry merchent and jim lampely were incredibly disrespectful to george. it was his fight before he fought holyfield i believe. larry merchant referred to foreman as "a joke", his comeback as his "worst nightmare", and the worst boxing can offer. They were talking about how old he was, and how he should be in a rocking chair, and he was 41! how many guys fight successfully past 40 now that its common place. wow times change. Then when lampley asked why he thinks the crowd seemed to cheer Foreman so much he said it was because "everyone likes a jolly fat man". It was just one smarmy comment after another. Foreman didnt look in bad shape whatsoever. He looked more fit and solid then say, Arreola on his best night. they went on and on with these fat jokes about how his robe was so big it could probably cover Albania. Then he ends up knocking the guy out in 2 rounds, way faster then Holyfield knocked him out not too long before, and their comment on the guy who lost is "well thats what rodriguez was here for" "yeah, he did his job, he lost" and im just going what tha hell are they talking about? not a big deal or anything but total disrespect to the sport of boxing and the two fighters that got into the ring. i really hope they've learned alot since then, even tho they werent exactly rookies in 1990. kinda funny that years later they had to put him over for doing exactly what he said and winning a heavyweight title
Mellow out MissDeeCole. You're too uptight.Comment

merchant is disrespectful to most fighters and lampley can sometimes be encouraged by merchants behavior .Comment

I guess you're talking about the Rodrigues fight, many people still considered Foreman's comeback as a joke back then, his comeback didn't really gain legitimacy with people until the Cooney fight 2 fights before Rodrigues but even then a lot of people were still criticizing him so it's no surprise that HBO did so as well. Foreman was pretty self deprecating back then too which kind of made criticism easier to dish out.Last edited by Silencers; 01-24-2010, 06:46 AM.Comment

It is disrespectful but no one took Foreman's comeback seriously until one day they noticed, hey, he's actually capable of beating these guys.Comment
