Comments Thread For: Ivan Calderon-Donnie Nietes To Be Explored

In the wake of Brian Viloria's upset loss to Carlos Tamara, there is already some talk of a possible scenario where WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes (26-1, 15KOs) would move up to junior flyweight to challenge unbeaten WBO champion Ivan Calderon (33-0, 6KOs). Nietes fought on Saturday's Viloria-Tamara undercard, stopping Jesus Silvestre in ten rounds. [Click Here To Read More]

Calderon-Nietes would be an exciting fight. Niteets looked good last night, very sharp and slick. Hopefully it will get made

*** that they need to make a segura vs calderon fight. Segura has enough power to give him problems plus its a mex vs puerto rico match up.

Hey calderon, if theres no one to fight at 108 move to 112. youre the ring magazine champion, beat Nietes and move on. Youre carrer its almost over, retire undefeated as a 3 time world champion.

This must be good but then I think Segura is in better position to challenge Calderon, while Nietes needs to unify with one or two titlists in his division to prove his worth competing to Juniour Flyweight especially to the level of calderon.

Why not Calderon vs. Tamara in N.Y.? So many Puerto Ricans, and Tamara's from North Jersey with, I'd imagine, a big local Colombian following. Sounds perfect!

Nietes or Tamara good for Calderón..But...

I never seen Nietes fight, but he does have a good record so that looks like a good fight on paper & against Tamara would be even better...But the problem is that Calderón career is in the hands of the 2 *******s called Peter & Ivan Rivera(Rivera Bros.PR Best Boxing)& they are very difficult to deal with & are not by all good negotiators....That's one of the reason's that in 6 years that Calderón has been a champion, he's never unified his title(the 2nd is the bad luck he's had with champion's that they somehow were able to make a deal but have a mandatory before the unification & end up loosing & for reason's mentioned before the winners don't get to make a fight against Calderón)

No offense to pinoys but a fight against Nietes would be Calderon easiest title fight in his career. Not because Nietes is a bum, but because he has fought bigger men and taken bigger punches, now taking a punch from a 105 pounder might tickle more than hurt for Calderon, especially since Nietes has a 50 ko percentage at minimumweight.

Tamara would be more challenging I think.
