Comments Thread For: Johnathon Banks-Dominick Guinn in The Works

A crossroads fight between heavyweight contenders is in the works for the Wladimir Klitschko-Eddie Chambers undercard on March 20 in Germany. The plan is for Johnathon Banks (23-1, 16KOs) to face Dominick Guinn (32-6, 21KOs) on the card. Banks moved to heavyweight after being knocked out by Tomasz Adamek last February. He's won three in a row at the weight. Guinn won four in a row since losing a decsion to Robert Hawkins in 2007.

very interesting matchup.guinn has had some disappointing losses over the last several years to Barrett, toney,& the 2007 loss to veteran gatekeeper Robert Hawkins.after valuev decisioned Canadian heavyweight bergeron, guinn came back to Canada(he lost to Hawkins on fnf in Vancouver)& crushed bergeron in 2.he followed that up with a 1st round knockout of undefeated johnnie white.his last fight was a 6 Round decision where he weighed 240.too big for guinn.I've followed his career & I've watched banks a few times.this is banks hardest test since the adamek knockout loss.guinn always had the talent & power but has had a tough time getting his hands going.his activity level is way to low & he loses confidence fast when things don't go his way.guinn is now a gatekeeper himself & is a dangerous opponent when things go his way.I'm going out on a limb & saying guinn is desperate to get back in the mix.he's challenged arreola recently after being dumped by dan goossen.I think he is going to knockout banks in 6 rounds

lol didn't know that he lost to Hawkins

Good test for Banks to see if he's viable at HW. They're about the exact same size

          Good matchup.

Jonathan can win this, but he has to be careful because Guinn can punch.

despite moving up in weight,,banks is one of the hardest punchers at heavyweight currently. guinn will make him work but dont be suprised if he is the first to stop guinn. banks has a powerful right hand and powerful left hook. lets not also forget before he got stopped by adamek, he was winning rounds and was controlling the fight and landing flush on adamek. even stunned adamek a couple of times.

not too big on Banks coming back after the adamek loss. his last 3 fights dont convince me because 2 of them were complete trash, javier mora you can say is a solid opponent because of his rugged bring it style but he held his own in that fight.

Stunned him once with a left hook i think

I think he has power but don't think he's one of the hardest hitters, you really think he's in the Klitschko, Boytsov, Haye, Virchis, Platov punching power range?

he has enough pop to hurt most guys in the division if he lands clean, and hes fast and has good boxing skills. guinn will be the first real test to see how he really can do in the division though. at CW he couldve been top dog by now, no doubt wouldve had a decent chance of beating adamek in a rematch.

if he beats guinn id love to see them fight at HW, banks will profit more from the move up and he was doing good until he got clipped.
