Floyd Mayweather Jr. to open as 2-1 favorite over Shane Mosley
January 20, John Chavez
This is the fight that will be Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s answer to Manny Pacquiao's decision to fight Joshua Clottey.
Mosley vs. Mayweather... "A Long-time Coming..." is a fitting name for a fight that's been well over a decade in the making.
Is it a magnificent fight that the public seems to think it'll be?
Probably not but that is irrelevant as it's the boxing match that the public will most importantly pay to see.
I just got off the phone with world reknown line-maker Joey Oddessa in regards to this super fight and here were his feelings on the fight:
"Mosley has looked very questionable over the past several years against varying degrees of competition. Against Margarito people said that he looked great but you have to remember the turmoil that surrounded that fight in addition to work coming out of the boxing circles that Antonio had alot of struggles making the 147 pound weight class for that fight."
"Mayweather looked as sharp as he ever has against the smaller man in Marquez this past September. If he can duplicate that type of performance and Mosley comes in looking at his very best, I still see Floyd out-boxing Shane."
"Too much movement, too much boxing, too many sharp jabs and lead right hands. I'd open Floyd around -220 for this fight while Mosley would be around +170."
So apparently on paper, the Mosley-Mayweather fight is more competitive than Pacquiao-Clottey. Just to reiterate... that's just on paper.
In real-life, I predict that Pacquiao-Clottey will be extremely competitive up until the end while Mayweather might put together another dominating performance while utilizing all of the tools he's amassed over the course of his career to pick apart the man known as "Sugar"
