Does Sugar Shane have a chance at Hopkins like late career?

Shane may have looked bad a few years ago, but he has always had trouble with bigger guys and that's what he was fighting at 154. Since the move back down to welterweight he has looked much better, his only loss a very close fight against a prime Miguel Cotto, certainly not something to write a guy off for. Bernard Hopkins I'm sure was written off a little as at the end of his career after the losses to Jermain Taylor and has since revitalized his career.

I'm not predicting that Mosley goes on at an elite level into his 40's like Bernard did, but with a new trainer and with the fantastic shape Mosley has stayed in, he is still among the best in the world at 39. This Mayweather fight will be a great indicator as to how Mayweather's career plays out from here, if he looks very impressive, win or lose, who's to say he won't continue to live at the top of the welterweight division until he is 43 or 44? He has potential fights against Mayweather and Pacquiao right now, and if he beats just one of them he will catapult to mega stardom again. He still has Berto and Clottey out there to fight. If he is still at a supreme level in a year or two he could be looking at Tim Bradley or Amir Khan moving up. Not to mention whoever may blossom into stardom in the next year or so.

i see your point jangles, and the more i think about it the more i reckon it could be that way,i mean mosley looked great against margarito

its funny actually,i was about too start a thread about cotto becoming the next taylor (very skilled fighter but ultimately struggles with a hard 12 round fight which will cost him)

i think the cotto/mosley situation is very similar to hopkins/taylor.the younger guy winning the fight should boost their career bring the older guys to a halt-but it actually has turned out the other way round

margarito being to cotto what pavlik was to taylor

not sure if that made sense, had trouble wording it

if shane beats mayweather or manny pac, or both, its simply because he's the better fighter and wanted to get at both of 'em while he still feels he has something left...he wasn't looking to stretch his career into his 40's by beating up on blown up middleweights like hopkins does....

we can count on shane to fight the best opposition if he can't get a mega-fight, as he had a fight signed with andre berto...a real threat...

we can count on hopkins talking about fighting adamek at cruiser or the winner of dawson/johnson 2, but really, making more fights with blown up middleweights like ornelas and shot fighters like roy jones....
