Now that its basically a sure thing Mayweather-Mosley will happen its time to start comparing a debating who will come out on top. Their most obvious common opponent is Oscar De La Hoya. Now the fact of the matter is that Shane has 2 victories over Oscar but he did struggle with Golden Boy. Most feel that Oscar actually won their second fight and got cheated on the cards. I watched the fight live and thought Oscar did enough for a decision. I haven't watched it again since then so I dont know if my opinion would change or not.
Floyd fought Oscar and won a decision himself. Though there was not a lot of punches landed by Oscar Floyd didn't dominate him like he typically does other opponents. There are even some who think Oscar won that fight, I am not one of them.
So with that said, was the Oscar who fought Floyd just as good as the Oscar that fought Mosley in the rematch? I say yes. Oscar was the bigger man in both fights, used his jab, stood his ground, and faded a lil by the end.
So how would Floyd-Mosley do versus each other. Floyd has shown that he could overcome Oscar's Jab, its the weapon that gave Mosley the most trouble from Oscar, Winky, and Vernon Forest. Floyd, like Roy Jones, historically doesn't use his jab much but against Marquez he used it to great effect. Mosley has never had a great jab, more of a pawing jab a range finder, his biggest weapon is his overhand right, lunging left hooks, and sheer aggression.
Overall, I give Floyd the advantage because I have seen him neutralize aggressive opponents with big right hands and pawing jabs, he also has an age advantage and less wear and tear on his body. Also Floyd has a great jab and will use it when he needs it. So if he keeps that jab in Shanes face like Oscar, Winky, and Vernon did, Mayweather should be able to pull out a good victory.
Shane at some point in the fight will go all out though so Floyd is going to have to deal with that, his defensive skill however, should help him survive that.
