I have noticed the tendency of certain defensive fighters to talk a lot of trash and be very outspoken. I always thought that the reason for this was:
1) because they needed their mouths to generate excitement since their fighting style is boring.
2) Another part of me thinks it is to get their opponents angry (AND SLOPPY) so that they can counter punch easier.
Obvious modern day examples are Floyd, Malignaggi, Hopkins... Exceptions to me are CLottey and WInki. (both of whom walk down their opponents and are somewhat offensive).
So which is it? 1 or 2? What are other examples of outspoken defensive fighters who were somewhat boring to watch?
