That is why they are throwing names at random to see the comment and reaction of the majority. Once they have a positive response from the fans in one of the canditates they pick it will be that fighter whom floyd will fight.Comment

This is bull**** and too far fetched. Alvarez is an awesome young talent but extremely green and not to mention unproven. Talk about throwing a kid under the bus.
Under what grounds does Alvarez even deserve the payday or even a shot at Mayweather. This is bogus.Comment

Two Wrongs Don't Make A Fight
Okay. This topic has become the dead horse that has been beaten to the veritable, bloody pulp that has become a journalistic tradition. Yet, there is an unquenchable thirst that the subject has subjected my literary soul to. Therefore, kindly allow me to get this whole deal reasonably straight so that my existence may resume a somewhat normal balance. Floyd Mayweather turned down 40 million American smackers to avoid having to taste the power that is the Filipino fury known as Manny Pacquiao? Well, actually this is not even a question because at the end of this tale is that very simple equation. Floyd Sr. planted the steroid theme and much like the Panama Lewis style assassin that he is, refused to let go, taking the fight and his kid down with him. So I guess Floyd showed us, huh? He’s bigger then the sport of boxing. He also managed to elude the best fighter on Earth, making that pugilist appear to be the bad guy. If there were one element of fact that suggested that Pacman uses drug enhancement to bulk up, then I would say without hesitation that Olympic style testing be a mandatory component of the contract for this contest. Nice illusion and even better work if you can get it (or avoid it as is the scenario seems here.) But there appears to be ample proof that it is Mayweather who has utilized an injectable substance prior to bouts which decreases the pain elements which can arise due to his extremely damaged mitts. This particular chemical just happens to be legal in Nevada but is illegal in most other states. One of those territories just happens to be Texas where Manny’s next competition will materialize. Interesting, to say the least.
So Manny will fight the rough and tough Joshua Clottey and if Mayweather has any true grit left, his only real option is to challenge the winner of the January 30th clash between Shane Mosely and Andre Berto. If Floyd manages to avoid this clash as well, he should just retire again and go bankrupt in peace and quiet and out of our lives. Screw ‘em. I helped pay (per view) for his life style and I can certainly desist in no longer participating in his wealth seeking, fight evading, difficult manners.
Just when I thought the sport could not sink a half inch lower, along comes the audacity of pound-for-pound great Bernard Hopkins who has actually convinced some schmuck with a large checkbook that a fight with the shot Roy Jones Jr. is still a viable event. Jones was recently dispatched in a matter of two minutes by a tough Australian kid named Danny Green. In a reasonably fair (not perfect) world, Green should have been the recipient of a Hopkins match. But this is professional boxing and the projected bottom line can still turn a harsh reality into a tasteless prize fight.
Question: Who the hell really cares what these two guys can do against each other as of 2010? Even five years ago this rematch would have been respectable. Today, it is de****able. I guess neither of these men has heard of a light heavyweight named Chad Dawson. If Bernard ended his career by fighting the best in the world instead of one of the once best, he would be my personal hero. Instead, he is placing his 45 year old head into the mouth of a rather tired and should be retired lion in Mr. Jones who appears to have checked his pride at the bank.
But dreams die hard, the flesh gets weak and the once mighty forget who got them to the mountain top to begin with. It is the fans who made Hopkins and he has chosen to go out on a 50 buck PPV stallion and take a 12 frame decision with him.
Is anyone out there so desperate for a fist fight that he or she requires this trash clash?
Therefore I am suggesting the following: In an economy that is witnessing a ten percent unemployment rate, a country that is engaged in two wars, a battle over the literal life and death of a nation should Health Care Reform fail and certainly not least, our knowledge that the country of Haiti is in dire need of millions upon millions to rebuild an entire society, our finances need be placed in perspective and not in the pockets of ignorant opportunists like Hopkins, Jones and Mayweather. Manny gives away a great deal of what he earns and places himself in the eye of actual hurricanes. He is therefore not the focus of my pending proposal, nor is he exempt. Yet, say what you wish about the man but he has a unique conscience in an age of self centered sports figures. It is one of the factors that unites my certainty that his blood is as clean as his social concerns. Pacquiao puts it all on the line. He has tasted the hideous terror of typhoons. Do you actually think that the thought of competing against “Money” Mayweather, sends chills down his nature beaten spine?
And so my proposal is simply this: Unless a Pay-Per-View fight is truly competitive and in the best interest of the sport of boxing it should be boycotted. Follow the multiple alternatives available when Bob Arum or Oscar De La Hoya try to get fat off the land of boxing mismatches and attempt to shove the sweaty glove of a non competitive Punch-for-Pay event down our disillusioned throats.
Show them who the real experts are. Do not buy their crapola. Read a book. Talk to your wife or girlfriend. Talk to your kids. Go to the movies. Buy your mother some flowers. Donate some of the dough to those who need it much worse than you do and certainly more than a Bernard Hopkins does. Volunteer for one of any community oriented services before you get arrested instead of after getting busted. That in itself would be a trend setting device for those of us prone to bringing firearms to a basketball game or carrying a 45 into an eatery as a dining companion..
Enough is more than enough gang! The boxing fan is being treated like an imbecile in search of any throwing of hands, even if those hands have become selfish and useless.
There is still a world in need out there. This is not a time for side shows or an easy touch.
If you think you are that good at what you do, then inspire through example.
Without such desire, the craft of boxing will certainly suffer a slow, tragic demise and it will be the most respected names of the game who shall be to blame.
The art of self defense was a respected craft once upon a time and many of its participants were once gallant, heroic figures: Ali, Louis, Robinson, Leonard, Frazier, Duran, Arguello, Sanchez, Holmes, Chacon, Mancini, Gomez, Ross. Christ! What the hell happened to my beloved country of Sporting Courage?
Hopkins vs. Jones? Mayweather vs. Cintron? Sorry, Brother. That is one dime I simply cannot spare.
I wish all of my fistic comrades a happy and healthy new year and my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti who are engaged in a battle that should remind each of us what is truly important on this planet.
When things get tough, just keep on punchin’.
Until our next sparring session, this is Rich Buckland reporting.Comment
