ESPN: 50 greatest fighters..if both retire today, where would PBF and Pac rank?

    Here's the list: Top 50

    • No. 9 Jack Dempsey
    • No. 8: Jack Johnson
    • No. 6: Roberto Duran
    • No. 5: Willie Pep
    • No. 4: Joe Louis
    • No. 3: Henry Armstrong
    • No. 2: Muhammad Ali
    • No. 1: Sugar Ray Robinson

    Source: Top 50 is here.

Sure, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather are good. But where would they rank among the best fighters of all time? And, come to think of it, who's No. 1? Kieran Mulvaney tells us in our comprehensive greatest 50 series.

Keeping in mind this was done 2 years ago.

Where will you rank them both Manny and Floyd?

ranking fighters then coming out with a reputable list is a very very daunting task my man...

but just my 2 cents on this question i would say its MP who is higher...

it could change though if PBF decides to clean up 147 then ups the ante @ 154...

As it stands Pac is clearly the more accomplished fighter. I think the key difference between the two is that Floyd is more famous for the fights he didnt have rather than the ones he did. He would have to do a fair bit to catch up,which isnt likely given his penchant for averting risk.

Pacquiao would have to be ~20 and Mayweather ~30 for me.

Mayweather needs to beat a good opponent and then Pacquiao himself to catch up and maybe edge him out.

That's tough to say right now. Mayweather still has something to prove and Pacquiao isn't finished yet either. I'd have to wait and see once there careers are over, to see where I'd put them.

pbf "coming back" from retirement while mp was destroying everyone in the ring...

that's a wide margin for me.

as i have said before... pbf does not have a cotto-mosley-margarito-clottey in his resume... pac already has one and it is going into two this march.

In my opinion....Manny is top 10, while Floyd is top 25.

The only thing is that while PBF was retired Pacquiao beat JMM, David Diaz, De La Hoya, and Hatton.

PBF beat De La Hoya and Hatton before he was retired. Came back and beat JMM.
