    I noticed that you're the author of boxingscene's pound for pound rankings and i just wanted to ask you a simple 2 part question;

i dont see Clottey on there and i was wondering if he would crack the top 10 if he pulled off the upset...and if so, where would he land?

    muchos gracias

and rightfully so MaK, there are a lot of deserving fighters than clottey to be in the top 10-15. I know the question is for cliff rold, but IMO if he beat pacquiao he makes #10 or below top 10 in the list because:

i dont rate him in the in the top 20 p4p right now but beating the guy who is at #1 should move him up a few places.

clottey is much bigger than pacquiao at comes in at 170 lbs fightnight so beating a smaller guy shouldnt put him way above in a p4p list.

clottey is coming off a loss and his best win is zab judah

    my p4p top 20 is:

    1. manny pacquiao
    2. floyd mayweather
    3. shane mosley
    4. bernard hopkins
    5. juan manuel marquez
    6. paul williams
    7. nonito donaire
    8. chad dawson
    9. celestino caballero
    10. tim bradley
    11. ivan calderon
    12. miguel cotto
    13. arthur abraham
    14. andre ward
    15. lucian bute
    16. sergio martinez
    17. chris john
    18. hozumi hasegawa
    19. juan manuel lopez
    20. kelly pavlik

Not sure about top 10, but Clottey is def top 20 imo.

You could take Caba outta that list based on inactivity alone.

I don't think Caballero is on the Boxingscene P4P list.

he fought 5-6 months ago..and this a list based on my opinion. the ring magazine still has him at number 8.

im sure he will crack the top 10 in a official list (ring, etc) IF he beats pacquiao but im not sure whether i would personally put him at my top 10 it depends on what other fighters have done.., right now he doesnt make my top 20 list as they are other fighters more deserving over him. remember these lists are based on opinions..considering clottey isnt in my top 20 right now

interesting...i was just curious on how much stock a win would give Clottey...some fighters get 'pardons' for past losses when they have that signature victory...i'd expect some writers to revisit the 'he probably won the cotto fight' theory and the 'margarito-plaster' excuse as well...i guess we'll see...

I think he will. Pac is in high regard at the moment and an upset by Clottey would be monumental. There will be an overraction by alot of boxing scribes and for that alone, he'll crack the top 10. Clottey beat Cotto in my book and hurt his hand during his bout with Margarito. He did beat Judah and Corrales. He is a very good fighter.

I hope I don't sound racist by saying this but there seems to be a habit by African continent fighters of not fully grasping the intricacies and nuances of winning a boxing match. Sometimes I sense that the "shot at a title" or to be regarded as a match for the current title holder is just as good as winning it. It always happens. They give up rounds to test their chins and go toe to toe just so they could send a message to the champion that "yeah, you're the champ but I can take your best shots. I'm just as tough as you. Even tougher". The problem is, in a fight that goes the full distance, they're still doing it up until the last round. It's the Jake LaMotta syndrome.

Quartey, Clottey, and just recently Ouma could have won their biggest tests if they only knew that sometimes you have to impress the judges instead of the guy in front of you. They always seem to come up short in title fights. Just my two cents.

I have no clue...it would probably depend on how he won as much as anything else. I had him beating Cotto narrowly and a Pac win would be impressive. Could he kiss the top ten? Maybe. No clue where until I see if/when it happens.

That answer sucks, I know, but it's the best I got.
