  • Cotto's last 10 opponents

    Manny Pacquiao
    Joshua Clottey
    Michael Jennings
    Antonio Margarito w/possible plaster
    Alfonso Gomez
    Shane Mosley
    Zab Judah
    Oktay Urkal
    Carlos Quintana
    Paul Malignaggi

You know on a walk around town I was thinking about an unbeaten record. On that walk I came to the conclusion that is doesn't mean anything, forget about not much but it really means nothing.

Its all about the opposition you face and how well you do against those opponents.

If certain fighters took on more dangerous fights and lost it wouldn't mean anything at all. They would still be just as good as they were before they lost. The only difference is now ppl know for sure what they can and can't do.

So props to Cotto for fighting several top level fighters win or lose because whether he won or lost it really doesn't effect how good he is or was. His peak whether it has past or not is what it is.....he took on the tough challenges and risks.

Even Jennings would be the 2nd best fighter Berto ever fought if he fought him today.......I just think after his set backs Cotto deserves more credit than what he gets on here after taking the risks many won't.

Yes thanks for adding that, how many would have gotten through unblemished with the opposition he has faced?

I just think too often ppl take a glitsy record at face value when it may actually not mean much at all.

Great resume he should only have 1 loss, but even with that the way Pac beat him still blimishes his resume... Damn Floyd really need to step his game up

Even if Floyd did and lost a couple after taking on tougher opponents, it would change the fact that he is an extremely skilled defensive boxer and one of the best in the game.

2 true ATGs there, and two other guys who could possibly make the HoF. And then there's Clottey and Paulie who could end up doing enough to get in there too. So in a best case scenario, Cotto could end up with 6 HoFers on his resume as of now, worst case scenario 3 or 4. Not bad at all.

And he probably has 2-3 fights left in him.

Hmm I knew someone would say that.

And for comparison, a few of Floyd's opponents

                    Hernandez
                    Corrales
                    Castillox2

                    Chavez
                    Corley
                    Gatti
                    Judah
                    Baldomir
                    De La Hoya
                    Hatton

All world champs, and 7 guys who could end up as HoFers, and some like Oscar and Castillo are shoo-ins..

Floyd's opposition is not that bad, you people need to realise this. He doesn't have an incredible resume like Ali or SRR, but to claim the man fights bums or even more bizzarely, exclusively smaller guys (which makes no sense as the only guy I can remember Floyd outweighing is JMM) is ridiculous.
