Black Eyed Pickle: How Mayweather's PED claims left boxing with a black eye and him in a pickle

When Floyd Mayweather Jr. first stated that "The Philippines has the best enhancement drugs" during a satellite radio interview in October, nobody suspected that such a statement would lead to the postponement of the century's biggest fight.
By insulting and throwing baseless allegations towards boxing's best fighter Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather threw himself at the crossroads of public opinion.
Does he really fear that Pacquiao is using performance enhancing drugs or does he simply fear Pacquiao, period?
Along the way, all the talking and yapping and all the press releases, nameless sources, alleged e-mails and media manipulation have left the sport in question. Why not just fight the way he normally fought his 40 other opponents? There is a boxing commission for a reason, so it's really out of the ordinary that Mayweather would require Pacquiao to do the strenuous Olympic-style tests out of nowhere. The fact is, we can only go by who is clean or not with the facts presented to us and as far as facts are concerned, neither Floyd nor Pacquiao are illegal drug users- unless you consider someone using a drug that's illegal in other states.
So Why does Pacquiao not want to take the test? Because it's ******. It's a baseless rumor and propaganda that was initiated by the Mayweather camp and preyed on the misinformed by using shrewdly constructed press releases and statements. It's ****** if you ask me, and most people that fall for it are either casual fans who have not followed Pacquiao long enough to see how he has naturally progressed as a fighter through hard work or die-hard Mayweather fans. Of course you also have some that are genuinely skeptical-- which is fine. But just as Bob Arum said, Mayweather gained more weight than Pacquiao from age 16 to 31 which is how old Pacquiao is now. Create some evidence to raise reasonable doubt first before you subject someone to such public character defamation.
Without proof and still without an opponent, Mayweather got himself into a pickle. While Pacquiao has picked a bigger and tougher opponent in Joshua Clottey, rumors on Mayweather's next opponent have been about either smaller or lower level fighters like Paulie Malignaggi, Nate Campbell and Matthew Hatton. There are also talks about him fighting Shane Mosley, but that will have to wait. And honestly, who sincerely thinks he will fight Mosley?

Also plaguing Floyd is the question as to whether he will ask his next opponent to take the similar Olympics-style drug testing. Mayweather's camp has accused Mosley of steroids too, and Mosley himself admitted that he was guilty of using it.
The question is significant because by not forcing his opponent to go through the similar tests, then he definitely comes out looking like somebody who simply wanted a way out against Pacquiao. Why would you have who the world thinks is the best fighter in the world go through something like that and you never had any evidence against him, yet you'd just fight anybody normally? Unwillingness to take the risk perhaps of losing the "0" in his record? I certainly think so.
And why not fight someone who truly poses a challenge like Paul Williams who has expressed his desire in the past to fight him? Or even Sergio Martinez or someone in the top 5 at least that's not smaller than him then force them to take the test. Because obviously, any desperate fighter wanting a payday will take the drug test as long as they get paid.
The world awaits Floyd's next move. It'll be interesting how he wiggles his way out of this pickle he has put himself in. Something tells me, another press release is coming.
