Clottey is an Underrated, Solid Fighter

Mayweather wouldn't need to.Although I don't totally agree, I can see your point. He has been really unlucky at very crucial times, and if you imagine how frustrating that is you can see why he feels he's been hard done by.
But as you say, great fighters like Pacquiao seem to shrug it off, forget about it and get back to work. I don't think Clottey is a letdown fight by a long shot, I think this as tough a fight as he could've picked, and it's a fight that adds to his resume. It's certainly a fight that Mayweather would never take.
Clottey wasn't on the radar while Mayweather was campaigning, and now that's he's back he's still not on the radar. Pac and the Mosely/Berto winner are more lucrative bouts than Clottey.
Clottey's ok but let's not build him into something that's he's not.Comment

Excellent observations and comments. Clottey seemed to be looking for a way out of the Margarito fight after he supposedly hurt his hand.I'll probably catch some flak for saying it but another thing to mention is that I don't think Clottey has the will thats sometimes needed in a top fighter. There are times when boxing isn't working and you just got to step up to the plate and go to war... instead he seems to have a habit of looking for excuses or a way out... like the aforementioned firing of his trainer after the Cotto fight. Or how he seemed to be pretending like his leg was hurt bad in that fight when he got body slammed... if i remember right he was on the ground holding his leg like it was hurt then got up and was fine when nobody was buying it. And then there's the question of his work rate... it felt like he had Cotto in that fight... but he just didn't go after him.
I have a feeling that for the reasons stated above Clottey has questionable mental toughness, and Pac is the kind of guy who's willing to go there and back as many times as it takes; Clottey gets there and looks for a way out.... I don't think he has the heart of a warrior and there's a good chance it'll show in this fight when Pac starts hitting his stride and raining down his nasty shots.
Not meant to be a flame or jab at him by any means as I have a lot of respect for his ring skills and he seems like a cool guy... it's also worth noting a lot of the criticism directed his way may not be his fault - it's no secret Pac probably only has a few fights left, and people want to see him land the best fights he can... despite being a solid opponent compared to a Mayweather fight, Clottey is frankly a letdown... and a lot of commentary on the fight is going to reflect thatComment

I agree, Solid fighter. I'm glad he is getting a chance at Manny unfortunately its at our expense in the fact that Pac vs Floyd isn't happening instead.Comment

He's a solid fighter, nothing more, nothing less. He will only have a slight chance of beating Pac, I don't even see the fight being close. His mentality is not of the elite fighters out there.Comment
