Comments Thread For: Ricky Hatton is a Shot Fighter, Says Lloyd Honeyghan

Boxing legends Lloyd Honeyghan and Ken Buchanan are joining the army of fans and fighters who are begging Ricky Hatton to stay away from the ring. The fighters are worried about Hatton's safety. They think he is risking permanent damage if he goes through with his comeback. Hatton has not fought since last May's two round knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao. A few ago Hatton announced his boxing comeback for the summer. [Click Here To Read More]

They could hold Ricky Hatton vs. Naseem Hamed for one of the new super-heavyweight belts. Marquez is going to rip his body to pieces. Holy ****in fat cow did he look horrible tonight.

Wasn't Ken Buchanan going to make a come back recently himself, at the age of 62?

Honeyghan thinks Hatton was shot pre-Mayweather

losing to the top 2 pound for pound fighters in the world TODAY doesnt make you a shot fighter. He just lost to better competition. If he wants to fight again, let him. This next fight will determine if he still has IT or not.

The thing is bar the Malignaggi fight Hatton has got hurt in every fight for a while.

Collazo, Lazcano, even Urango hurt him with a big body shot. Pacman and Mayweather obviously. He seems to get hurt everytime he enters the ring these days.

Compare that to other fighters like Calzaghe or whoever you like, but Joe got hurt properly once against Byron Mitchell. He got knocked down in his last two fights by strange shots and that was enough to make him think twice. Bernard Hopkins never seems to get hurt that's why he can pursue fights at the age of 44 with a clear mind.

Ricky Hatton is Roy Jonesing it at the moment. I'd only want to see him fight Juan Diaz if I was a big fan.

I dont really know about him being shot, too hard to say as he has only lost twice to the two best fighters of the era,and neither of those was a prolongued beating that would cause long term damage. What I would say is that over the last 4 years maybe the hunger has gone a bit as he has made a ton of money inside the ring and isnt doing too bad outside of it.

He is something of an enigma as far as his application to the sport. There can be very few fighters who have attained his level of success whilst abusing their bodies in between fights. He has blown up to nearly 14 stone since the Pacquiao fight, and at his age and with nearly fifty fights under his belt that cant be good.

I dont think he is shot in the traditional sense, but His days as a top fighter are over imo.

I think a lot of that is to do with the way that he fights. He can be hit,and in boxing,if you can be hit then you can be hurt. Hattons best defense has always been attack, and in the last 4 years or so he has slowed a bit,so it goes that he has been getting hit more often, and if you watch him earlier in his career he used to have much better head movement, which now is pretty much non existent.

                    True.

Its not that he os 'shot', but he takes big shots and gets hurt by fighters who dont have a great punch.

If he comes back now he will be slower, more vunerable and at real risk of being stopped again.
If a fighter doesnt KO him with one big shot he will take a beating.

Doesnt make any sense for him to comeback. He may be involved in some exciting fights, but i dont think its worth the risk.
