  • Comments Thread For: Why Ricky Hatton Can’t Walk Away

by T.K. Stewart - When asked why he couldn't stay away from the sport of boxing, the oft un-retired 'Sugar' Ray Leonard said, "I missed the sound of the crowd. I missed that feeling of being the center of attention and I missed the rush of the competition."

And so it is for Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton.

There are those within the sport that hope he never walks up the steps and slinks through the ropes and into a boxing ring ever again. After devastating one punch knockout losses at the hands of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2007 and Manny Pacquiao in 2009, there are those that feel it is time for Hatton to take a long walk off into the boxing sunset.

At 31-years-old, with millions of pounds stashed in the bank and with a loving family that supports him, Hatton could easily walk away from the sport. He held titles at 140 and 147 pounds and he routinely fought in front of sold out crowds at the M.E.N. Arena in his hometown of Manchester, England. He is one of the few fighters to enjoy high popularity in both Great Britain and the United States. He is generally regarded as one of the most adored athletes/celebrities in England and he is the most popular fighter to come along in that country in the past 40 years. [Click Here To Read More]

only one reason why he cant stay away,

because he needs more money to feed his promotional company.

IMHO Hatton doesn't want any what if's story in his life in boxing, no regrets before hanging the gloves I truly understand him. He really believes that thing may have been different if he didn't peek to soon against Manny and that is what is bothering him as of now. I do believe that he want to fight until he losses as long as he knows that he did at top shape and gave it his all for the fans.

Hatton has specifically said he wants to fight a World Champ or someone in the pfp list, he's not looking for an easy opponent.

I want Ricky to fight JMM at WW a catch weight of 144lbs I am sure he can no longer go down safely at 140lbs. And get the current best trainer that is Freddie Roach and Ariza as his nutritionist. I am sure Roach will also pick the perfect referee that will benefits hatton's style of fighting. So in the end he can't blame anyone but himself if he loses this fight. If Juan Diaz lasted long against JMM how much more with R. Hatton.

As of me Ricky to the end.

Love Ricky the man, but always thought him as little more than a crude brawler who had one great night and a lot of average ones after it. Katsidis is not an easy fight. It would be a nasty battle if the two men got together and Kats would stop him in the late rounds as the Fatman loses steam quickly around the 10th and Kats is relentless through 12.

He's going to look for a relatively easy payday.

He's not hungry for a 140 belt anymore, so he's not gonna take a fight against someone like Bradley or Alexander, which won't be massive paydays but hard fights. Khan would be a huge payday in the UK but I'm not sure he could handle losing that fight and using this "I'm his friend" excuse saves him from the fight.

JMM is gonna be his number one target, he's a big name and it's a winnable fight for Ricky. I don't want to see it though.

Although I really want to see Ricky face a 140 champion, but not Urango.

To summerise I miss young, honest, hungry Ricky. The one who'd fight any of the 140 champions to prove he's the best in the division.

Hatton lost to the #1 P4P fighter at the time Mayweather and then to Pac who is now #1 P4P.

He was KOd both times as we all know.

I dont think it means hes shot, Pac/Hatton should have went rounds but Hatton fought a dumb ass fight charging in. He should fight again to see what he has left and not to mention make a few more millions plus try and go out on a good note.
