Comments Thread For: Demetrius Andrade Stops Bernardo Guereca in One

Going into Friday's matchup against Bernardo Guereca on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights", Demetrius Andrade promised to put on a spectacular performance, and that's exactly what he did. Andrade, who improved his record to 9-0, 7KO landed a picture perfect counter right hook midway through the very first round that sent Guereca to the canvas hard. Guereca was very hurt and remained on the canvas until the referee reached the count of ten. Official time of the stoppage was 1 minute 18 seconds of round number one. Look for Andrade, who is co-promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and Banner Promotions, to be back in action very soon. [Click Here To Read More]

Who would have guessed this would have happened? I think just about everyone in the arena and everyone that was and wasnt watching it on TV. Really big mismatch and just a why even match these two up type of fight.

I agree with what Teddy was saying and a talented guy like Andrade with a long successful AM career could step about against better opponents. No monsters yet, but tough journeymen fighters.

i can understand a slower pace to the start of his career cuz he's so damn raw, but his level of competition is embarrassing.

The guy only has nine fights, give him a break. He has star qualities written all over him. Look for him to be the next big face in boxing in a few years.

Yeah, for once I actually agreed with Atlas, especially the comments about how Hearns and Leonard were brought along, and stepping up now and fighting fighters who will actually give him a fight will actually help him in the long run. If he smashes 20 sub par opponents and gets thrown into a title fight he could find it far tougher than neccesary.

                Step it Up

They have fighters out there that would still be considered easy for him but would allow him to work on his skill more in the ring. He just needs someone with actual boxing skill that will help him to mature. He has many amateur fights. Im not saying go out and fight a top 20 Middleweight but he can find someone that would atleast have a chance of giving him 1 good round. Its a lot of bums out there and being an olympian he should not have to fight all of them. Just because you are a professional does not mean you are a good fighter.
