Have you ever had to deal with a runaway pet as a child or as an adult dealing with a child?
At first they'll be sad and/or angry and try to understand what happened. "How? When? It was just there not too long ago." Then you'll try to comfort them and be reasonable. "We'll get you a new pet."
Some kids will move on quickly and accept a new pet, some won't give up so easily and will wait it out. "Maybe your pet will eventually come home" you tell them, and it'll give them hope, but they'll still go on with life and won't give up interacting with other pets they come across in the meantime.
Then there's always the bratty bunch that will be stubborn and whine and throw tantrums "I don't want a new pet! I want my pet. It's never coming back, and I'll never want a new pet ever again!
"
Mayweather/Pacquiao fiasco...same thing.
