Floyd Mayweather’s crack team is going down their usual checklist in search of a March stay busy opponent for the undefeated fighter.
I understand there is an actual form for this and here it is:
1. Opponent should be elderly by boxing standards (Nate Campbell turns 38 on March 7).
2. Opponent must weigh a fraction of what true welterweight Money May does (In his last bout, Soupy weighed 138 ½ and was miserably ineffective against junior welterweight Tim Bradley).
3. Opponent must be part and parcel of the Golden Boy empire (Soupy just came aboard after escaping from that Dinosaur Don King, as opposed to fire breathing Dinosaur Bob Arum).
4. Opponent must not carry real pop in his punches (Soupy qualifies again).
5. Opponent must be willing to accept measly purse (Soupy sure will).
6. HBO must be willing to give opponent a thumbs up.
Well, come on, be fair, fight fans.
The Goldens were doing great on this one until they got to Number 6.
By contrast, Manny Pacquiao fights a real welterweight with a real chance for victory, Johsua Clottey.
Mayweather couldn’t do worse if he let Bruce Trampler and Bob Arum pick his opponents.
Well, maybe Mayweather’s former promoter is picking them.
