Tarver didn't land the counter Haymaker in the 1st fight.
In the 1st fight, Jones looked drained and dull. Tarver fought in spurts, and while he did land some good shots, Roy caught a lot on his gloves and saw them coming.
In the 2nd fight, they both unloaded at the same time, and Tarver landed first with a money pucnh right to Jones chin that he didn't see coming.
Tarver knocked Roy out with a flush shot in the 2nd fight, and that's all there was to it.
You seem to be saying Roy looked great in the 1st fight, but that everyone's using the weight loss as an excuse for his KO loss in the 2nd fight.
I don't see that at all.
Jones looked dull and drained in a lackluster 1st fight, and got caught cold in the 2nd fight. That's all there is to it.
When I said he did good in the first fight, I meant he did good at taking those shots Tarver was throwing at him.
As far as Jabs saying Tarver never caught Roy with a good one in their 1st fight, that's just BS. What about that one that produced the swelling around his eye?
Yes, De La Hoya vs. Hopkins was a pretty good fight.
Anwyay, I mean, how come he took those shots in the 1st Tarver fight reasonably well, and got knocked unconcious by only one shot in the 2nd fight? I mean during the first fight his body would have been in really bad shape, compared to the second fight, considering how he just lost the weight, he had a tooth ache, etc.
Why is it that in the second Tarver fight, which was months later, allowing him to physically recover, did he collapse from one solid punch? A punch what a he seemed to see coming on top of that.
are you trying to imply that jones took a dive? i dont think he would ever do that but he does stand to gain a lot if he were to avenge his losses. imo jones was just past his prime when he fought both matches with tarver and the one he fought with johnson.

I'm saying he took a dive, but what I want to understand is the whole muscle loss theory.

the muscle loss theory is that jones was ruined when he lost all the muscle he had in order to make 175, i think that if you have problems making the weight once you are going to have trouble making that weight twice. it was just to hard on jones's body and combined with age, it really hurt him as a fighter

All I can say is that if you're trying to insinuate that Tarver landed a punch in the 1st fight that was even remotly close to the haymaker he landed in the 2nd fight, you crazy.
Not only was that a PERFECT left hand Tarver landed in the 2nd fight, it landed when Jones was throwing and didn't see it coming.
It was a perfect shot, under optimum circumstances.
There was nothing even remotly close to that in the 1st fight.

All I'm saying was that when Jones was in worse shape, he seemed to do better than when he was in top shape.

thank you.
A punch to your eye doesn't KO you like flush shots, as your throwing the same punch, on your chin do....
Put it this way- Had Tarver caught Roy in the first fight the same way he did the second....Roy gets dropped.
The shot that landed on Jones in the second fight would have knocked anyone out. The angle was perfect and he was hit accurately in the chin. If this was Jones 1-3 years ago, he would have seen that punch coming, and would have not gotten hit. In the first fight, Jones got hit by many punches but not in the caliber of the KO punch he got from the 2nd fight. PERIOD.
I do want to see Roy fight again. In his prime, he was unstoppable, and he was seldomly hit. As he got older, his reflexes and speed deteriorated, and the weight loss just made it severly worse. If he does make a comeback, he cannot rely on his reflexes anymore. He has to go back to the drawing board, and learn the fundamentals.
I would be happy to see him back in the ring, If he can get his body in shape and dont bull **** in training, he can beat Tarver or Johnson. In the Tarver 1 fight Jones was exhausted by the 6th or 7th round but still did enough to win. That just shows how bad Tarver really is. The 2nd fight Jones did look better than the 1st but the punch was perfect so you really cant say nothing about that. And the Johnson fight, yall seen that. Gun shy. If he woulda punched and moved a lil more it woulda been a easy UD. When Roy did throw a few punches they landed then he would just stop. So what Im saying if he really wants to do it he can, He just has to forget the KO losses and move on, I think the Tarver punch is what had him gun shy against Johnson. If he wants to regain his p4p status he cant be like that, he has to move on and whoop some ass Roy Jones style.
