Floyd Mayweather Sr.: Clottey's chances slim, dim against Pacquiao

I know he’ll never win any popularity contests in Pacland but, in that remote area known as Marleyland or White Gorilla Territory, Floyd Mayweather Sr. is considered a solid citizen.

(Insert tortured, flaming comments about us both below if you must. Try to keep it clean, boys.)

Anyway, I rang up Money May’s Daddy in the wake of the crash, boom **** wreckage that was a March 13 super bout between his child and Pinoy Idol Manny.

I found Poppa M in relatively good health and good spirits in the New Year.

His usually garrulous and definitely not “punk ass beeyatch” son has been making like a Tibetan monk with the radio silence lately.

But I knew the father would not disappoint on the burning issues of the boxing day but I will let you be the judge ands jury.

L’il Floyd has described a fight against Pacman as “easy work,” something akin to a frolic at Boracay Beach or a wild weekend in Baguio with the stunning Pinay Oracle and soothsayer Madam Auring.

(See British import Scott Heritage on how Jerry Jones pulled a Sarah Palin and went "maverick" to land the Pacquiao bout for his Cowboys playpen.)

(See Dennis Guillermo on why Clottey cannot be taken lightly.)

(See Chris Robinson on Manny trying to recapture ring magic in Texas.)

What about rugged Ghanaian Joshu Clottey then, I inquired, is he easy work for Megamanny?

“Yeah, I think is just too slow for Pacquiao,” Pere Mayweather said. “”That plus he doesn’t throw enough punches. That’s the edge Pacman will have over Clottey for sure.

“I think Pacman is highly beatable because of how has no defense and because he jumps in there with his punches. He does not throw the jab., he just jumps in. If Clottey stuck to a game plan it would be an easy fight for him but he won’t do that.

“Look at those solid shots (Miguel) Cotto hit the Pacman with and he did not budge. I’m laughing at it now but I been in boxing a long time, I know some things and I am not ******. So I still think and I still believe that something is not right, something is funny there with Manny. This is America, we can believe what we want to believe.

“I said before what I think, that I believe, so I ain’t worried about no lawsuits. I never said I got proof on this. I wouldn’t even know the stuff (steroids and the like) if I saw it but keep me far away from it.

“I say it again, with Pacquiao, something is not right. He agreed to testing 24 days before fighting my son. My son agreed, they said, to 14 days. I don’t agree with that because I would demand testing a few days before the fight and afterwards too,” Mayweather said.

“With my son, it’s way different because my son is an accurate puncher. Li’l Floyd would make Pacman think he’s surrounded. L’il Floyd is just too much against Pacman.”

By the way, Pere M believes their match will come about once more rigorous drug testing is implemented down the line by the Nevada commission.

There is some speculation that Mayweather will take a March 13 bout and substitute Paul Williams, the wiry boxer-****er who shares advisory services of Al Hamon with L’il Floyd, as his next foe.

Is this easy work? Mayweather thinks that Argentine tough guy Sergio Martinez cast a new light on young Williams.

“Another guy with no defense, this Williams. That guy gave him all the hell he wanted and more. And he couldn’t carry L’il Floyd’s jock,” Mayweather said. “His chances against L’il Floyd are slim and dim and none and none left town!”

I got around to asking about young Andre Berto trying to upset Sugar Shane Mosley Jan. 30 at Manadalay Bay.

“He is a little green, what is he 13 or so years younger than Mosley? There’s a big age gaps and that can play a large part. But, without better drug testing, you don’t know who is indulging in this, who is causing problems on that.

“If everything is normal, if both guys are fighting clean, then I say Berto has a chance. But the problem is, the way things are now, you never know. I say test all the fighters and do it right for boxing's sake."

One thing I do know is that Pere M, while he may not always be Father Knows Best, is a reliable quote machine for boxing scribes and scribettes alike.

    I told you he’s a solid citizen.

Am I the only one who gets very annoyed at Mike Marley's writing style?

Theres not a person alive that Floyd DOESNT think he can beat.

Rogers aware of Williams...they KNOW who Paul is.

Roger Mayweather said that Paul Williams would be Mayweather's hardest opponent. Paul is the kind of guy Mayweather should face after Pacquiao/ Shane. Atleast not now.
