How can Floyd fans really respect him?

Before he retired, he knew that his time was running out of facing over-matched opponents.

He already fought Judah, Baldomir, DLH and Hatton. All of them were greatly over-matched. He knew that he had to fight either Cotto or Margarito.

When he announced his comeback, you thought it was gonna be against a real welterweight, right? Wrong. He chose the reigning lightweight champion Marquez. Was it a surprise that he beat him? No.

Now his biggest threats in Cotto and Margarito are gone. Cotto is arguably shot and Margarito has been exposed as a (potential?) cheater.

Mosley and Pacquiao are his only threats now.

Mosley straight up confronted him and asked for a fight. Nothing happened. Pacquiao wanted to fight and it looked like it was actually gonna happen. Then they both find a way to ruin it.

In all, he's managed to avoid 4 top welterweights since the end of 2007 and fight 1 lightweight.

Now, please tell me how you can respect this man?

None here could be mad at him. He did everything in his power to get Pacquiao in the ring.

margarito was a threat to floyd?

he would be as overmatched as anybody floyd ever fought in his career. this whole thread is the typical no win situation. he cant fight everyone, u even say yourself margarito has been exposed yet u say floyd shouldve fought him instead of judah or baldomir who were rated #1 and #2 at the time. judah having unified the division and baldomir who beat him. there was a big push for the judah fight and alot of ppl though zab could beat him. i dont think anyone believes margarito could ever beat floyd.

floyd asked mosley for fights twice, mosley only wants it now that hes older and has an excuse for losing putting him in a win-win situation. he shoudlve fought floyd in 1999 or 2004 when floyd called him out, he didnt want to give floyd the chance so why should floyd give him the chance now that shanes at the end of his career?

even though i know i shouldnt bother i will answer your question.. i respect floyd (and im not even really a fan) bcuz of his work ethic. he dedicated his life to boxing straight from the craddle and deserves what hes got form the sport. i also respect anyone whos willing to get in the ring and risk their life and go thru the amount of pain fighters do for a living. anyone who dont should get of their computer and step in the ring themselfs for a reality check.

On one part you don't need to respect him - on the other part I don't know why you shouldn't have respect for a fighter?

To your point before he retired - that's your opinion... but this is not based on facts... because if you say they were overmatched - you have a point that skill wise they were overmatched... but isn't anybody skill wise overmatched with him with the exception of Pacquiao (and even he would be overmatched skill wise IMO)??? Do you want to tell me that Cotto or Margarito aren't overmatched skillwise against him? So what is your point?

I said it before... as he came to WW... these were the best... Cotto wasn't even there. Margarito was a champ... but he was nobody... could he have fought him yes... but I don't see the reason why he should have HAD TO. Some guys talk like he was a great or something... and that he missed a chance out... he wasn't. He went on and lost to Williams... so I don't see why you mentioning Margarito and not Williams...

It was a comeback fight... I have no problem with Marquez... it was a COMEBACK FIGHT... who else took on a REAL challenge straight after retirement? I have no problem with Marquez if it leads up to something that should have been Pacquiao... I see no problem. And by the way it's not the first time in history that somebody moved up two weight classes... Mosley did it... Pacquiao did it etc. Marquez was OK... it won't be a highlight of his career BUT it is ok... like I said... if it leads up to something.

What should have happened? Mosley has a fight with Berto and Mayweather wanted Pacquiao... are you blame him for taking Pacquiao over Mosley??? Only because Mosley now wants to fight... why has Floyd to do it... I don't understand your point... after Mayweather gave him a shot at him back in 2006... why does he now HAS TO fight Mosley... only because Mosley wants it?

Since the end of 2007? He retired... if you can't except a retirement it's on you dude... he would have not returned if it wasn't for his money problems... I know it doesn't sound in too good in your hate for Mayweather and your theory but did ever give it a thought that Mayweather boxes since forever. He trains like a real boxer probably since being 10. His body was breaking down on him and he just couldn't do it anymore (hands anyways and his back was well).

If you talking about top WW's... you should also see at which point they were dude... Margarito was a top WW after Cotto (Floyd was already retired)... Cotto was after Mosley (at the time Floyd retired... which was sad because I wanted to see it too)... Mosley after the win over Margarito (were Floyd was retired)... the only one he missed out was Cotto... Margarito never had any case to make... and Mosley had only a case by his name... what has Mosley done in the last six years with the exception of loosing his big fights... Margarito was the first thing he did in the last six years...

He missed out Cotto... I mean honestly do you blame him for taking DLH and Hatton (who bring you fame and money) over Margarito (at that point of his career) and Cotto (at that point of his career)? Then you should blame every other boxer as well.

The things that I told you are facts... facts as usual are the best way of defence... just look them up... you simply can't bring somebody's worth of today (like Cotto and Margarito... who now a days have a whole different reputation then they had at the time May was around) and put it in the past like it was the same back then... it wasn't? I don't know since when do you look boxing... but if you wasn't around until 2005 as he arrived at WW... I guess you didn't know how he scene looked at that time...

Floyd's resume is lacking big names at WW... but like stated a million times... every fighter's resume is a bit lacking compared to his natural weight class resume especially 4 weight classes above... if he fights Pacquiao what he wanted I have no problem with it... even though Pacquiao won't get him credit again for a real WW probably... but I see no WW who can beat him anyway... so why not give someone like Pacquiao a shot who has a chance of beating him...

That was a long response dude... I gotta now watch Football... respond later probably... have a nice day

I find it interesting that not only does floyd have die hard crazy ass fans that'll buy into anything he says, but he also has die hard crazy ass haters who'll spend large percentages of their time just spreading hate and questioning him. Fame is judged not only by how many who love you but by how many who hate you as well.

Another thing that is funny, is people are screaming at floyd to fight a real welterweight because they're pissed he didn't fight Manny???? Manny isn't a REAL welterweight!?!?!?!

ODL was not an overmatched opponent for floyd at the time, in fact he lost a split decision, and could have one except that "it wasnt the night of the jab" - hatton was undefeated at the time he fought floyd and hadn't really been exposed as of yet, alot of people, including myself thought hatton had a real chance against floyd. And the problem with Floyd is that against him alot of people are overmatched, Manny may look overmatched against floyd, Floyd may get "exposed" by manny, who knows and we may never know. As far as the marquez fight, that was freakin ridiculous, and ducking a prime cotto because he "wasnt a draw" was also a giant joke, and honestly after cotto margarito (i was a huge margo fan before all the hooplah) i thought Cotto had a better chance of beating Floyd than Tony did, Margaritto was too slow and open for floyd.

How can you respect floyd you ask, because he's a damn good boxer. But yes i do wish he'd fight some real opposition, and not matt hatton or paulie or make people climb weight, but on the same token, who is out there for him to fight? If he fights mosely and beats mosely, then mosely was over the hill, if he fights and beats berto, then berto was too inexperienced, if he fights marg and beats marg, well margs no good without plaster, if he fights and beats cotto, its cause cotto is a washed up shell of himself...

Who can floyd fight and get credit for? I can only thing of one person, Paul Williams

I'm not a *****, i'm not a *******, I'm not a floyd hater and I'm not a manny hater, Im a fan of boxing, And a hater of stans/haters.. i like to watch mayweather fight, because i'm looking for someone to upset his record, and when he wins, i admire how good he was, i like to watch manny fight cause he's a beast, and he's impressive as hell right now.

I have respect for anyone who steps into that ring.

                  has floyd got fans?

sure, most boxing fans admire his skills and ability but lets be honest everyone wants to see him get beat

whereas oscar, calzaghe, hatton, the klits, even haye have got people who support them pbf is respected rather than supported
