1) In short, Floyd decided to trade popularity for infamy. popularity can be very stifling. You make as much money if you are infamous...but you aren't burned by the expectations of others. The downside is that you aren't loved.

Bull****. These is the favorite escape route they take for the real reason. Hagler was booed, Leonard was booed, Louis was booed, Ali was booed in fact every single african american fighter who ever fought in America was booed at some point for no good reason, until they finally lost.
