    Cleveland may be coming back

Hi new to the boards, read them a lot prior but havent posted. Regardless thats not the issue atm. After last nights Rockin in the Ring at the CSU convocation center it seems, although i may not be correct, but it seems that Cleveland may finally be putting out some quality fighters. Cortez Bey who was greatly hyped by the media here in Cleveland is the first one who I'll mention. He was an outstanding amateur but the first thing that came to my mind was, what if these boys dont live up to thier hype.... itll be disappointing and be bad for the city.... well, he lived up to his hype. Although he wasnt facing a quality opponent, i think he was 1-3 for a pro debut he showed he knew how to dispose of trash regardless. He won by K.O. against "Lil Dave" at 1:47 into round one. Guy spun in a circle and then went horizontal...On top of that he was shown up by his brother who i guess didn't want to be outdone. Mickey Bey Jr. knocked down his opponent with his first punch with a quick hook. Although he got back up a straight right finished the job and at 47 seconds into round one he won by K.O. Vonda Ward the IBA womans HWT Champ fought a young lady who was much smaller and instantly i thought this would be over in seconds. She was knocked down with 1 punch but got back up and took 2 min of flurries and made it to round 2. In the second round she knoced the girl out and it was impressive that vonda didn't give up. The only thing ill take away from that fight was the WWF indincident afterwards. Her and her up coming opponent were arguing back and forth saying they should fight right now in the ring....Also Rual Frank put on a tremendous display against Frenando Hernedaz for the vacant USBA jr middle title. He dominated most of the fight but Fernando showed some heart or so i thought.... In round 5 Frenando who i thought was showing alot of heart had back to back low blows, followed by 2 the ref didn't see, then he did it again and was DQ
'ed. Also in between rounds 3 young men got up on the stage and were introduced who are also going to be fighting out of cleveland. A 3-0 Middleweight, and two to make theyre pro debuts soon. One is on the Don King Card at madison square and is fighting in the HWT division and has alot of promise. Also a young lady rated the second best amateur woman boxer in the world is going to make her pro debut soon although she is only 18 or 19, she also averaged 26ppg at her highschool in basketball for Lincoln West High. This being said Ronnie "Slam" Duncen had to quote "not bad for a white girl". Last night I also met some great people. First off was Andre Ward a hell of a guy who sat next to me through most of the event and he seemed like a really nice guy. I met Floydd Mayweather Sr. who was ecstatic over the victories and just for a side note he is the trainer of Cortez and Mickey Bey Jr. Also met Roy Jones Jr. who for all the trash i hear talked about him is a really nice guy. Was kind to everyone who wanted to see him and would compliment all the fighters after theyre fights, also seems to be very close with Mickey and Cortez. Needless to say it was a great event courtesy of Roy Jones Jr. Promotions and Square Ring Inc. Like i said Cleveland may be coming back so watch out : )

I apologize for not remembering all the opponents and there were two other fights i forgot to mention but these are the ones that really stuck out

Cleveland Williams might rise from the dead? Great news! I expect for him to clean up the division zombie style.

I've heard about that card it looked really good. Cleveland I noticed does a lot of teleumundo cards. It is a great city for boxing unfortunately everyone has forgotten Ali fought there as well as a few other big names in the past.

The city could definately become a great new site for promoters that are looking to break out of the casino areas. Cleveland has many choices for boxing fights and the cards do notably well. I wanted to go to that even Roy promoted but I didnt get the opportunity.

      Thumbs up Cleveland!

I go to CSU, play rugby for them and i box for a gym called knockdown. I went to the fight it was entertaining but the fights didnt last long at all. Things around Cleveland are getting better, with Roy Jones, Usher and Lebron coming here. Cleveland is on its way up.

You go to CSU? Nice, is knockdown a good gym? I was looking to move to boxing which is quite a change from the norm. Why I say that is a lot of professional boxers like to try to kickbox after boxing, im going the other route but I'd like to know a bit more about knockdown. Also curious what weight you box at just incase.... Im 6'2" 165

Yeah i live just South of Cleveland in Strongsville by W 130th. Its like 15 min from CLand. I goto school out here in SVille but our "boxing gyms" the quotes is that they are a joke..... 100% recreational so was looking for something in CLand itself, i know there are a few on the East Side but was just curious what one you would personally recommend.
