There's a lot of criticism from both sides about potential bouts named by both camps. So what are credible opponents for both Pac and Floyd?
Things that must be taken into consideration:
1. Quality of opponent
2. Marketability
3. Looming possibility of Pac/May still happening
I couldn't care less if a fighter is marketable. If he deserves his shot, he deserves his shot.
In fact, marketability is just one more bull**** excuse for an elite fighter to avoid a tough challenge.
For Floyd, the onus is now on him to fight a true welterweight. Not have an already filled out junior welterweight (or lighter) move up, but a real welterweight. Preferrably Top 5 (even more so, the Shane/Berto winner), but I'll settle for any relevant welterweight at this point.
For Pacquiao, no more catchweights, no more endless conditions and dragged out negotiations. If he doesn't want to fight other welterweights at the welterweight limit, then drop back down to 140 and defend your lineal title.
In a perfect world (though one where Pac-May is still off):
- Pacquiao fights Tim Bradley before committing full time to running for office.
- Mayweather has Golden Boy swap his March date with Marquez, thereby giving him enough time to reserve a May 1 date for the winner of Shane/Berto.
Honestly, no other fights for either one of them particularly interests me, save for a move up to 154 for a fight w/ P-Will or Sergio Martinez. I'd say Sergei Dzinziruk, but that's not a realistic option on this side of the Atlantic.
