After the Mayweather fiasco I think it's the right move. He knew 144 as it was would have been a joke, and when Floyd couldnt make the weight he should have stepped in and cancelled it. Not exactly his place to do so, but you need a trainer whos honest with you and himself. He's either senile or just sent Marquez out to lose and get paid.
