I want to open this up by saying Happy New Year to everyone out there. I hope that you all had a wonderful safe New Year. As for me, my New Year’s Eve was pretty calm & quiet. I had some pizza and wings and rented some movies relaxin with the family.
I wanted to end 2009 on a quiet peaceful note. Some may call it boring, but I call it the calm before the storm. The calm before the storm because in 2010 I plan to make a whole lot of noise.
A lot of my boxing scribe friends are looking to make huge splashes in 2010, so why should I be any different? I am looking to kill it in 2010 for the simple fact that I know that a huge massive killer storm is approaching and it is going to hit the entire universe in 2010, and not in 2012, I repeat, not in 2012!
2010 is going to be a huge, GIGANTIC, year for boxing. Ok, ok, so the Godzilla of them all was supposed to be sealed and delivered by now, ok, I get it. We all know that it’s a dead bloody issue now. It may be dead now, but trust me when I tell you that it will and shall be revisited later this year.
I mean how could it not? Just imagine how much bigger it will be now that both sides now pretty much hate one another. If they didn’t hate each other before, they sure do now. Before the bloody mess came into play, the big fight itself was simply just to see who really is the top dog put together in a package that was pretty much rushed, it was rushed for the simple fact that both parties wanted to strike while the iron was hot. Now simply just add everything that has happened thus far and you now have the sweet element of hate come into play.
The negotiations began and we all were held and tied up waiting to hear what was next to follow. We were all held as hostages. So when this Godzilla event gets revisited, it will be bigger than ever. If negotiations for this were set at 50/50, well I have a feeling that the split of the pot shall change.
The split shall change because of Shane Mosley, Funny how the man that challenged both Manny & Floyd only to fall on deaf ears is now going to be the man that can make or break the deal.
What we do know is that Shane Mosley will fight the young rapidly coming Andre Berto the end of this month. What we also know is that Pac-Man has his eyes still set on a fight against Yuri Foreman come March 13 or the 20th. Floyd also has the same plans, only in Floyd’s plans we will most likely see him face a 147 or a 140 pounder, probably a 140 pounder.
Nothing against Yuri, who I happen to like alot, but Yuri will get beat by the Pac-Man. Floyd will also do the same and beat who ever he faces. If Mosley gets by Berto as many of us think he will, I have a feeling that Pac-Man will then want to face Mosley in like June or July, or maybe Floyd will also finally pursue Mosley.
Who ever gets to Mosley first will then own the bigger split at the bargaining table when the Godzilla event gets revisited for the big fight to happen anytime between October and December.
The thing is that for this to go down 2 very important things must occur. #1, first Mosley must get by Berto, so all eyes will be on Mosley come January 30, especially Floyd and Manny’s eyes. #2, if Mosley does beat Berto, whomever gets to Mosley first between Floyd & Manny, Floyd & Manny will then have to find a way to then beat Mosley. Tough task to do, very hard task to do.
Mosley holds the key, let’s face it, if Berto beats Mosley, a date against Berto doesn’t really scream ” I just beat Berto, now I call the shots!” All eyes on Mosley begins now.
