is it killing the sport ? (intelligent discusion)

Question for everyone that loves this sport.

Without having a governing body or a commision to govern the sport, fighters like Mayweather Jr and his promoters can make demands that ultimately leads to a break down to the...well you know. My question is, if this sport had a governing body that steps in and provides a base policy to this negotiations and controls the way the sports is run would the sport be more popular today?

    No.

The sport isn't as popular as say... the fab 4 era. Because of television.

Boxing doesn't come on regular television. It only comes on PPV. It sometimes comes on Versus but they dont show quality match ups and I doubt anyone turns their channels to 200+.

The UFC wasn't popular until the started a reality tv show that came on primetime television (spike tv). It continues it's success because they practically own spike tv now. People who flip through channels will eventually skim across two guys pounding their faces in and eventually become fans. Now MMA is the fastest growing sport and even got a CBS deal. A fuc.kin CBS deal!

    You see what I mean?

Boxing is slipping in the USA, there are a lot of factors. A governing body would be a dream come true in terms of porper matchups and fair pay, but it's never going to happen because the promoters/managers, who make all the money and run the sport, would be out on their asses. They couldnt control the money or line the guys up to fight tomato cans anymore, and there's no way they're going to stand for that.

Dana White was right when he recently said people just "take, take, take" from boxing and give nothing back, whith mismatch main events and nobody undercards.

Boxing has always had a dark side, but greed has been killing it for a while. No more boxing on regular TV, $60 PPVs for empty cards, laughable matchups like Mayweather/JMM that took millions in from fans and gave them nothing more than a bull**** exhibiton match between guys in two different weight classes.
