The bantamweight division: Best in boxing?

The BW division has what may be the best possible fights in all of boxing. With a round robin tourney similar to The Super Six, we could see any number of FOTY contests and also see what becomes of some of the top prospects and best unknown champs in boxing.

    Hozumi Hasegawa
    Yohnny Perez
    Fernando Montiel
    Anselmo Moreno
    Joseph Agbeko
    Wladimir Sidorenko
    Neohmar Cermeno

Along with one of the great prospects Abner Mares.

What do we think here gentlemen?

do you still consider abner mares a prospect?

5 minutes to new year, and i just pulled out that ring magazine detailing his upbringing in hawaiian gardens.

Yeah, I think so. Hasn't had his title shot. Hasn't beaten anyone of great note so far. Gabi and Garcia were decent guys but neither really great former champs (obviously Garcia was a former champ but that was some time ago now) or possible future champs, so I think he still is. Just moving from prospect to contender now.

Maybe by the end of this year we will have seen his full transformation from prospect to contender and maybe even title holder?

Thanks for joining in the discussion about the bantamweights.

Glad you know of the three most publicised divisions though.

Well no it isn't the best division in boxing
yeah it has good names but won't get any attention besides those who follow boxing a lot
Perez who wasn't really know came out of no where and beat Agbeko who came off a win over darchinyan
hasegwa hasn't fought anyone good in japan
Cermeno looked good in his last fight and impressive with the ko even though he thought it was the 12th round

The Bantamweight is red hot now! Actually alot of the lighter weights are hot. The featherweight division is looking good too.

Some good names there. Ive only seen Agbeko, Perez, Montiel, Cermeno, Mares but from the ones i just mentioned Perez looks the best imo.

Perez beat Silence Mabuza in his fight before Agbeko. Mabuza was a great champ and anyone who knew that Perez beat him knew that he would be a top guy in the division.

Hasegawa beat Sahaprom twice. The last time by KO. Sahaprom is one of the greatest BW's ever and was very close to equaling Canizales' record of defenses before meeting with Hasegawa.

The other guys he's beaten have all been good.

Anyway, this is thread isn't stating that it is the best in boxing, though people who know more than the WW and JWW division might think so, but it's a discussion thread about the BW's.

In all honesty, it might be the the BEST division in boxing, but Welterweight gets the most coverage...... which is fair enough I suppose.
