Amidst reports that the on again, off again super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather now appears to be dead, many people in the boxing world have been left scratching their heads. One man in particular, HBO’s ‘unofficial ringside scorer’ Harold Lederman is still in shock.
“I just can’t fathom how two men can just walk away from 40 million dollars,” Lederman stated earlier tonight. “I just can’t see how it would be possible. I’m utterly amazed at everything, really.”
When informed that it looks like Pacquiao’s dancing partner in March may likely be Yuri Foreman, as reported by Michael Marley earlier today, Lederman seems less that infatuated.
“I just don’t know about that fight. It seems like a mismatch, really.”
It’s obvious that boxing is always one of the key things on Lederman’s mind, as a late night phone call with the sole purpose of wishing the Orange Park resident future blessings in the new year quickly boiled down to a boxing debate. Lederman feels that for the moment, if the March 13th bout is to dissolve, that both men are letting too much go out the window.
“I think there is something going on here,” Lederman stated. “I have heard that the pot would be around 30-40 million for each guy. That’s just too much money to let slip away.”
In closing Lederman went on further state his beliefs that the fight will happen, at least sometime this year. Elaborating further Lederman believes that much of what the public is hearing is simply smoke and mirrors in an effort to further keep the pot boiling.
“From the bottom of my heart I really do feel that way. I think they are trying to build up interest for the fight and trying to find some kind of way to get to that 3 million Pay Per View mark. I think there is more going on behind the scenes than people realize.”
