Travis Tygart, the CEO of USADA, told Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports that both urine and blood tests are needed to determine if a fighter is clean.

"There is no urine-based tested for human-growth hormone," Tygart said. "It doesn’t show up in the urine. It’s only a blood-based test. That’s true of a number of prohibited substances, particularly those that would enhance and aid a boxer.”

Tygert also added the schedule Arum is proposing won't work, because a fighter would have the advantage of knowing when he'd be tested.

“That kind of window is totally unacceptable,” Tygart said. “It would provide a huge loophole for a cheater to step through and get away with cheating.

Dr. Gary Wadler, an internal medicine physician and chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List and Methods sub-committee, supported Tygar's position.

“The fundamental principle is that the time and place of testing is in the domain of the governing body, not of the athlete,” Wadler told Yahoo! Sports. “It would lose all its validity if the athlete could pick and choose when he is going to be tested and for what he’s going to be tested for and how he’s going to be tested. They’re sophisticated enough now that if someone wanted to, you could play the calendar to your advantage."

And to Arum's notion that Pacquaio will feel "weakened" by getting his blood drawn close to the fight? Victor Conte, the founder of Bay-Area Laboratory Cooperative (BALCO), said the tests would have no physical effect on either fighter.

“That amount would be less than one-half of one percent (of the total blood in the body),” Conte told Yahoo! Sports. “It’s not going to have any effect, the drawing of blood. Could it have some mental effect? That’s the only down side of that. It’s certainly not going to have any physical effect, giving blood before a fight.”

you do realize that keith kazer says other wise...right??? j

you do realize that conte doesnt think hgh is ever relevant and that the real danger or thing boxers are going for is epo ... WHICH there is a effective urine test....

also you also realze that the only real effective form of blood testing is YEAR AROUND BLOOD TESTING

However, he points out another, possibly worse problem: new drugs that are already used boost blood in the same way as EPO but would be missed even by a working test. Lundby's answer is to detect doping by monitoring athletes' blood all year round for su****ious fluctuations in blood cell counts

just because your asking for a random blood test doesnt mean its accurate or even as effective as as real random blood testing done by the olympics which seems that they dont even do blood testing before events and rely on random blood testing throughout the year to catch people...

manny pac already knows he is going to be tested... he is going to be tested before his fight... 15 days from 30 days out is insignificant.. real random blood testing done is the whole year where you really would not know when you will be tested...

if your training for the olympics starts 2 years out , random blood testing would scare you because you basically dont know in 2 years what will happen... but doing a supposed random blood testing in a span of 2 months for the fight is practically useless and does not have the same effect as random blood testing over a year period... on top of that hgh is useless around the fight so the real benfit is epo...

who wouldnt be scared to send their blood into an organization that you know nothing about, know none of their protocols , and you have only a few weeks before commiting to check them out as you have never worked for them or had any fights under them. I would be scared if my blood got sent out somewhere and it came back inconclusive then you are screwed. People would be yelling why didnt you do the due dilligence on this company or agency as everything was so rushed. At least with the NSAC you have some type of history with them and trust them somewhat.

And lets not assume that the ASADA or any other labratory are perfect just because they do the olympics. There are alot of screwups that they are involved in and they seem to be behind the times as well. At least with the NSAC you have some type of trust.
