By Jake Donovan - If there’s a single item that can help put into perspective how terrific of a year it’s been for boxing, it’s the honoring of 2009’s Fighter of the Year.

In most other years, fighters such as Vitali Klitschko, Tim Bradley and Andre Ward warrant consideration for top honors for the campaigns each have led in the past 12 months.

But 2009 was not like most other years. It was a year in which terrific fights were made and the history books were rewritten.

The latter has everything to do with the Fighter of the Year category slowly but surely becoming a one-man race as the year unfolded, despite what on paper appeared to be stiff competition from the aforementioned fighters.

But when all was said and done, the names on that list were no match for Manny Pacquiao, who once again ends a year with BoxingScene.com’s Fighter of the Year award in tow.

Once again, as in this year marks the third time in the past four years that the Filipino southpaw has been granted such honors. [Click Here To Read More]

Cheers to runner-up Vitali Klitschko, whose dominant comeback has been one of the more remarkable feats in recent sporting history. Being as active as he is at age 38 is amazing, and barely losing a round since he came back is also amazing. Vitali is doing what boxing champions are supposed to do: fight, as opposed to talk (like a certain Mr. Haye). Vitali makes it look easy, but we all know that it isn't.

Manny deserves this award for bringing the excitement back to the sport of boxing. Mild mannered and humble but tough as nails inside the ring.

Wait... let me re-phrase this.

A former cheater (Mosley) who beat the **** out of the likely-cheater (Margarito) deserves an accolade for fighter of the year more than someone (Pacquiao) -- who has not proven to be a cheater -- who beat the **** out of the guy (Cotto) who got cheated by the likely-cheater (Margarito), plus another guy (Hatton) -- who hasn't accused the non-proven cheater (Pacquiao) of being a cheater, in fact his dad (Ray) has shown support for the one who is most being accused of being a cheater (Pacquiao) -- yet the guy who hasn't accused him of being a cheater (Hatton) got knocked out the hardest, and it was after this -- the brutal KO of a guy who is considered to be chinny and defenseless (Hatton) -- that the accusations first surfaced from the legendary cake-hole of someone (Mayweather Sr.) who was training the guy who was brutally KO'd (Hatton)?
