    Your opinion on technique

Imagine you are a strong fighter for your division with really good punching power but short arms. Strangly enough though, you are a little tall in the division. How do you turn this into an advantage?

I'm obviously asking for myself as this is my situation.
I'm 5'11", 155-160lbs, 70" arm span and arm length of 22.5". I'm usually the taller fighter but almost always have shorter arms. When boxing someone with arms as short as mine I'm actually real slick, otherwise I have fallen in love with the peek a boo style. It seems to work as I'm pretty strong and fast for the division (270lb bench, lots of plyometric training). But how do I use this and my height to my advantage?

Well if you are a strong fighter with good power, that's your advantage, work on being aggressive, on the front foot, setting up your attacks. Your arms are very short, I fight at 110lbs and have longer arms than you. So you need to come forward, close the distance and make best use of your attributes, which you say are power and strength.

You say you weigh 155-160, if you are in shape at that weight you would probably be best suited to fighting at 152lbs.

Yea in my best shape I end up around 154-155. I have really been getting agressive and it works great. I just wonder if there is anyway to take advantage of height even with short arms? And yea they are short, like you said even smaller fighters are likely to jab me to death. lol

Where does your height come from -- long legs, long torso, or both?

Focus on footwork to close gaps rapidly and get in close to your opponent, fire off combos and get out again. You got short arms? Then make use of your legs to carry you to the point where you can make use of your good power. Use them again to get out of danger.

Check Pacquiao's footwork against De La Hoya. Smaller guy using fast feet in bursts to get in/out and minimize the reach disadvantage.

I have had 10 fights and I would say its mostly legs. The use of fast footwork does make a lot of sense. Right now I do a lot of head movement and leaping hooks to get inside, which is kinda the same idea. Also I have noticed that I can effectivly lean back against some opponents without getting caught.
