    Where's Don King?

I may be the only one, and I know that he is alot of the reason that boxing has fallen out of the mainstream, but you have to admit, when he had control of the heavyweight division, that boxing was on the front of the sports page. I know he is still around, but he doesn't have any big marquee household names. I miss the ballyhoo that he brought, that was reminiscent of Doc Kearns, and the like.

And whether you love him or hate him, he is responsible for bringing the biggest fights together, he delivered Ali vs. Foreman, Tyson vs. Holyfield, Holmes vs. Cooney among many others.

I think I miss the old days, I am getting tired of seeing GBP and Top Rank always being in the mood. Neither of them have a "way" with words quite like King. He was not a moral person, but what promoter is? It is their job to make money off of another person getting beat up.

    Anybody else agree?

He pretty much has disappeared. I believe he was involved in the Haye-Valuev "fight", and he was front and center at the Agbeko-Perez card on Halloween. That's the only recent events I've seen him or heard about him.

King is in his late 70's now and doesn't have the incredible energy anymore he had to be such a successful promoter. Arum is as old as King, but unlike Don he built a very strong team underneath him. King was the whole show and had a high turnover of employees.

I miss King also and he used to put the best undercards...

The problem with King and till this day is still a problem is that if he one of his fighters is fighting against another opponent. Then he wants options on the opponent. And, that was his downfall...

Now promoters don't want to and feel they don't have to deal with him. And, he still keeps asking for options. So other promoters don't want to give up options. So they refuse to deal with him now.

When all these other promotional companies was coming up. That was when Don King should changed his ways. And, stop demanding options for fighters. And, if he would of done that. He probably still would of been relevant right now.
