yep, he has never canceled a fight. He wanted this badly. I hope they do the right thing and reschedule.

I wonder who will replace Edison on 11 days notice? Or will they just postpone the fight?
        Agreed.

Damn shame. Miranda must be kicking himself. This was the best opportunity he could have asked for.

I hope it'll just be postponed as I was really looking forward to this fight. It has the styles match-up for a war.

WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (36-2, 22 KOs) is looking for a new opponent in his first defense on January 9 at the Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg. Scheduled challenger Edison Miranda (33-4, 29 KOs) has unforunately fallen ill and has pulled out. The search for a new opponent is now running at full speed. The result will be announced in the coming days.

In addition to Stieglitz’ defense, the card will feature a female super fight between unbeaten world champions: three-belt featherweight champion Ina Menzer (25-0, 9 KOs) will face challenger Ramona Kühne (15-0, 4 KOs), the reigning WIBF super featherweight champion. Also three attractive heavyweight bouts have bee anounced. Unbeaten Denis Boytsov (26-0, 21 KOs) meets Kevin Montiy (17-6-1, 13 KOs), “Diamond Boy“ Manuel Charr (13-0, 6 KOs) faces ex-world title challenger Owen Beck (29-3, 20 KOs), and Spotlight fighter Christian Hammer (4-1, 3 KOs) takes on Universum boxer Markus Tomala (6-1 3 KOs) in a clash of fighters who both train out of the Universum Gym in Hamburg.

Edison ‘Pantera’ Miranda, who was scheduled to fight for the WBO belt against Robert Stieglitz, on Jan 9th in Germany has unfortunately been struck with the flu and had to cancel the bout. “For the past two weeks Edison has been fighting this thing but he just couldn’t shake it” says renowned trainer Joe Goossen. “We have been monitoring his health very closely and trying to get him through this. We had to pull the trigger and do what was right.” This fight would have been Miranda’s second title fight, losing his first encounter to Arthur Abraham in a very controversial war in what has become known as the Battle of Wetzlar. Edison was very much looking forward to returning to Germany and fighting in front of his many European fans.

“I want to apologize to everyone, Robert Stieglitz, Universum, the WBO, my team, and all boxing fans for not being able to make this fight happen. I am very upset with having to cancel. This was a great opportunity for me. Hopefully we can try to reschedule sometime in the next 4-6 weeks.” According to Team Pantera there are other opportunities that have been mentioned if the Stieglitz camp decides not to reschedule this bout. One name that has been mention is IBF belt holder Lucian Bute who is looking for an opponent to fight this April. “My first priority is to make the fight with Robert Stiegltiz happen as soon as possible. If this cannot happen I will look for the next best opponent who is willing to fight me.”

So maybe Miranda wasn't very ill, but just wanted the higher profile Bute fight with a large HBO purse instead of a chance of winning against the unknown Stieglitz? SMH.

I like Miranda but he has fallen into the opponent role the last few years. He once appeared to be a force, but not any more!
