Berto vs. Collazo

I just got around to watching this war for the second time (it seemed even better then how I remembered it!), and I had an identical scorecard to that of when I first saw it a year ago...
The really close rounds IMO were the first round (even though Berto stumbled and looked hurt, one could make a case for him still doing enough to win the round) and the 11th (just one of those swing rounds which Collazo had in the bag initially, but then allowed Berto to rally back).Code:C || 10 | 9 | 10 | 10 | 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9 || 114 B || 9 | 10 | 9 | 8 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9 | 9 | 9 | 10 || 113
Overall, definitely not a robbery, but I believe Collazo won - by the tiniest of margins, just because of Berto's point deduction.
Surely such a close fight requires a rematch. Whether or not Berto wins later this month, Collazo thoroughly deserves a second chance.Comment

That's a bit steep. At the most Collazo might've sneaked 7-5, but anything more than that is just not possible if you really watch closely (I used the 60fps HD version). Berto also had some good rounds in there, so he did his fair share to win as well.
I think 7-5 either way is acceptable, but 6-6 makes the most sense IMO. I found it to be similar to Pavlik-Taylor II and Cotto-Clottey. All razor-thin decisions that could've gone a round either way, or a draw. Robberies they ain't.Comment

It's really based on how you score fights... and how you respect a fighters style as it transpires... imagine Berto would have been Hopkins and Collazo Calzaghe... you would have given Berto more props for landing cleaner and harder punches...
Collazo worked more but mostly as I felt with pitty pat shots... and Berto landed the harder punches... I was ok with the win for Berto even though one judge had it pretty high if I can remember right which was a joke... the impression that was on me after the 12th round was... that Berto if he had one more round would have ko'd Collazo... it doesn't count of course.
I think it is also because most have sympathy for the underdog... Collazo was against the odds... Clottey was up against the odds... Martinez was up against the odds... so of course ppl feel for them... but none of these fights were a robbery... close fights where the winner could have been different but NOT HAD TO BE different... I agree. Since scoring is so subjective, one viewer is well within their rights to see it as far as 115-112 for either fighter. For me, what won the 6 rounds for Collazo was punch volume and pressure (Berto's holding also worked against him at times), and the rounds which Berto won were by landing harder shots.It's really based on how you score fights... and how you respect a fighters style as it transpires... imagine Berto would have been Hopkins and Collazo Calzaghe... you would have given Berto more props for landing cleaner and harder punches...

In the end, a rematch is warranted. Berto should keep to his word and grant Collazo that rematch he said he'd like to give him. If he loses to Mosley, all the more reason for it happen. If he beats Mosley... well, he still should give him a shot somewhere down the line, since he's only now entering his prime. It's just fair.Comment

Why not a rematch... the problem is only that Collazo is pretty much sitting on his ass now forever... so IF Berto should beat Mosley I guess he can kiss Berto goodbye... the fight was good but Collazo simply has no following to demand it... if Berto stands to his word all power to him... but I guess nobody would blame him if he goes on and fights guys like Williams, Mayweather etc. if something like that should happen... we will see...
I'm excited for Mosley-Berto to tell you the truth... I like what I've seen heart wise from Berto and Mosley seems to have his hunger back... at least he talks like that... should be interestingComment
