Floyd Mayweather must step up or step off TODAY

Floyd Mayweather Jr. claims that he is the one and only boss of himself.

Now is the time for Mayweather to prove it.

Otherwise, Mayweather is the BOSS all right, the BOSS of nothing.

Today is Sunday and his mega bout against Manny Pacquiao is in the intensive care unit with a Code 99 being called out. In other words, the March 13 Dream Fight is on life support.

The only person now who can breathe life into it, who can salvage it and prevent Pacman and Bob Arum from moving on Monday or Tuesday to lesser lights Tim Bradley, Paulie Malignaggi or Yuri Foreman, is Mayweather himself.

Richard Schaefer is merely a Mayweather messenger.

Al Haymon is merely the highly paid (seven percent or more?) adviser.

Leonard Ellerbe is the chief cook and bottlewasher but he doesn’t decide what’s on the fistic menu.
Roger Mayweather, the snaggle-toothed uncle, is just the trainer.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. is just a noisemaker, like those cheap gadgets drunks blow into on New Year’s Eve.
Oscar de la Hoya, well what can I say about Oskie except that he is getting tremendous, totally positive coverage (a January, 2010, cover story entitled “De La Hoya, The Retirement Interview) in Ring magazine on the Ring website.

The coverage is so cheerleaderish (is that a word?), so sis boom bah pro Oskie, that if I didn’t know better, I would think that he actually owns the magazine and website.

The so called “Bible of Boxing” is turning into Oscar’s Golden Scrapbook.

See Tim Sullivan's view that the whole furor could just be ticket-selling prefight hype.

    But I digress.

If Mayweather really, truly wants to step into the ring in March against Mayweather and prove his supremacy, then he will issue marching orders today as follows:

    1. Mayweather will put a gag order on Herr Schaefer.

    2. Mayweather will put a gag order on Oscar.

    3. Mayweather will tell Haymon and Ellerbe to make the fight, to agree to the quite reasonable blood testing of Megamanny from his Nevada licensing exam, from a second blood test taken the day of the final prefight press conference (the Wednesday before the Saturday fight night) and a postfight test.

    4. Mayweather will agree that the Nevada commission, or its self selected representatives, will handle drug tests for both fighters. No one else, just Nevada and whoever the commission sees fits to assist it.

    5. Mayweather will stop putting out dumb press releases which purportedly have him saying words he never uses, such as, “frankly speaking…”

    6. Mayweather will phone me at 917 853 4484 immediately to inform me that he is doing or has done all of the above. (I won’t hold my breath.)

Mayweather needs to step up or step off.

Hey, imagine all the drug testing demands Money and his minions can make on the Shane Mosley-Andre Berto Jan. 30 Mandalay Bay fight victor.

And, by the way, it bears repetition that neither admitted steroid user Mosley (“a mistake,” he claims) or Berto, fighting in Nevada, are taking a single blood test to be checked for drug use.

That’s none, nada, zero and zilch.

I don’t think you’re afraid of Manny, Floyd, I really don’t. I think this whole mess has been gamesmanship, your way of trying to get into Manny’s head more than into his bloodstream.

You want any mental or physical edge you can get, I savvy.

    But it’s crunch time now.

It;s gangsta or wanksta time, pal.

Step up or step off, Floyd.
