The Killer" Cintron = Today's "The Threat" Baret

The older guys on here, who followed boxing way back in the early 80's will know what I mean by the topic title....

Jose "The Threat" Baret was just like Cintron......an overhyped, Puerto Rican, power-hitting prospect.
Like Cintron....he padded his record & wowed a lot of fans with his big-time KO's over a bunch of small-time opponents.
Then he had the misfortune of facing a seasoned pro who not only schooled & exposed him, but pulled his heart out of him as well.
Baret was thrown in against Marlon Starling on CBS. The entire program was spent hyping up Baret right up until the moment the bell was struck.
In the first round.....Baret's big, wild clubs bounced harmlessly off of Starling's air-tight defense.
The second & third rounds Starling totally took over, dissecting the defenseless, clueless Baret. Baret was looking for a place to hide as soon as he realized that hitting Starling was a chore in itself, & hurting the guy with his amateur **** was an impossibilty.
In the fourth, Starling backed up Baret with some DECENT combos.....& Baret went to the canavs, not to get up....though he certainly could have.

Baret never recovered....wound up getting his ass handed to him a year later by Floyd Mayweather Sr.....& was never heard from again.

I see the same thing happening to Cintron. He's terribly limited, is an overrated puncher, & just doesn't have the mental makeup to recover & become a champion.

I can't say I remember the fight, but thats ok thats why you are here.

I do hear some saying that Cintron should not be abandoned after one bad performance however the way he lost tells me that he will never be who many people thought.

He was outclassed on Saturday and he reminded me of another Mike Anchondo which tells me that he needs to be abandon in terms of championship hopes.
