it looks like hes got some serious heat on that looping right hook he does......would he punch harder with a straight right hand or the looping right hand that he uses..I always thought a straight punch was harder

he does, and with the left hook to the body (which is still lightning quick I might add)...but he needs to not depend on his power...he is no equivalent to Foreman at 147...he doesn't knock anyone out with one punch and he is not the puncher he once was...he needs to throw more combinations behind that heat... -
a looping right is considered less successfull because of more chances of missing and leaving yourself exposed. but powerwise its a tossup.frazier, tyson, and mayorga throw/threw conecting looping rights successfully.ametures and second tier fighters are taught to get away from the natural tendency of using it. hopefully mosley uses it as a part of his arsenal and not as a panic headhunting exposition. lesser fighters can be caught exposed throwing that punch. especially if you **** before throwing.Originally posted by Zab Super Judahit looks like hes got some serious heat on that looping right hook he does......would he punch harder with a straight right hand or the looping right hand that he uses..I always thought a straight punch was harderLast edited by STEELHEAD; 04-26-2005, 12:36 AM.Comment

In my opinion and judging by the logistical motions of the right hand, the straight right punch can be thrown with more power than the looping motion. You lose a lot of power when your body isn't behind your punch.
But the looping is useful for getting around the guard of an opponent, and it also is used when a fighter gets frustrated, so that's why we see those a lot. The mark of a well disciplined, intelligent fighter is a good straight right hand, like floyd and kostya.Comment

I think your opponent has less a chance to roll with a straight right hand which is why it can be more powerful...it comes right down the middle and weaving to the side doesn't helpComment
