    Floyd scrooges fans on christmas

**********ER BLOG OF THE WEEK: FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR SCROOGES FANS
    By Thornell Johnson (********** reader)

Dear Floyd Mayweather, I would like to first wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday. I had to start this letter off on a positive note because this letter isn't going to be all that positive. It has come to my attention that the fight with you and fellow P4P star Manny Pacquiao is going down the tube because of Mr. Pacquiao's refusal to submit to random drug screening by the US Doping authority. In what was at first considered an early Christmas gift to the casual boxing fan when it was discussed this fight would happen, it has now turned into a Scroogelike act on the part of you, your advisors, and your co-promoter, Golden Boy Promotions. I have watched you go on and on for years now talking about how great of a boxer you are while at the same time belittling your opposition as inferior. While I will make no argument about your abilities in the ring skill-wise, your business savvy and more importantly, your heart has come into serious question.

And since this is fight has denigrated into a debacle of astronomical proportions (channeling my inner Mike Tyson), it reminds me of a Christmas Carol. And while you are behaving towards boxing fans like Ebenezer Scrooge, I am going to first come visit you this Christmas Eve as the Ghost of Boxing Past. Mr. Mayweather need you be reminded of your retirement from the sport 2 years ago when you said you had enough. After knocking out a clearly undersized and overmatched Ricky Hatton, you felt the welterweight likes of Paul Williams, Joshua Clottey, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, and Antonio Margarito nipping at your heels. And although you could have fought a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya for a reported $30 million, you decided to retire. But prior to that you constantly spoke about those who were too green to fight you (Cotto), those who did nothing to deserve to fight you (Margarito), and those you claimed to not know (Paul Williams) while sharing the same promoter (Dan Goosen for the Baldomir fight) and advisor (Al Haymon), you added legitimacy to your retirement by walking away from the rematch with the Golden Boy. But what I found interesting was how you got motivated to fight Ricky Hatton outside of his weight class when you felt he "disrespected" you by mentioning how boring your fight were compared to his. And granted you AND the turnbuckle knocked Ricky Hatton out, you once again "retired" only to return to fight an even smaller Juan Manual Marquez, or as you call him, "Pee Pee Mouth". Sure Paul Williams mentioned wanting to fight you. And it is also a fact that Shane Mosley did everything in the press short of showing naked pictures of you and Leonard Ellerbe sharing a Snuggie to get you in the ring, it was Marquez who upset you the most when he simply stated he would like to fight you since he couldn't get Pacquiao.

I can understand your anger. What nerve did the LIGHTWEIGHT champion have to call you out, a fighter 2 weight classes north of his. It made absolutely no sense to your legacy to fight a fellow welterweight, since you hadn't fought one in 3 years. No, you had to fight the disrespectful lightweight champ whom it was obvious you were his second choice. And once again you were victorious over another smaller fighter you were supposed to beat. But wait, what's this? Shane Mosley jumps in the ring, gets in your face and.....acts disrespectful IN FRONT OF OVER A MILLION VIEWERS. The nerve of this welterweight your own size, just as fast as you, who hits harder than you jumping in the ring and challenging you to an actual competitive fight. And after years of bragging about how you are your own boss you simply tell him you have to talk to your team and your advisor Al Haymon. That a boy Floyd. You tell him. Nothing throws off a legitimate challenge like a contradiction. In the days leading up to the HBO broadcast, the entire boxing world waited with baited breath to hear you accept Mr. Mosley's challenge and you outsmarted us all by taking the high road and wishing Shane Mosley luck with his career. While I am sure none of those million viewers who saw Shane chump....*ehem*.... challenge you to a boxing match would have watched the 24/7 leading up to the fight, replayed the interviews on Youtube, and purchased a boxing match with 2 even matched fighters, you had a much smaller......*ehem*.....bigger fish to fry in Manny Pacquiao.

    ~Fade to the Present~

It is now Christmas eve and word has it Bob Arum has given you a deadline til the end of the day to accept the terms of Manny Pacquiao to make what is being considered the richest fight in history. And the reason for it is because you have requested that Mr Pacquiao take random Olympic styled drug test administered by the USADA. Where did this come from? Mr. Mayweather I have never thought Manny Pacquiao for one second has taken steriods to gain the success he has. In fact, and I don't like to brag, but I have laced them up once or twice so I would THINK I know a little something about boxing. And I have a friend who is a personal trainer who takes HGH as well as steroids and I can tell you right now, this guy wouldn't stand a chance in a boxing ring as a result. I don't know any steroid using boxers who have gained an advantage in the ring from using steroids and HGH. I am not a rocket scientist, but I am pretty sure steroids don't make a fighter a better boxer or allows them to take a punch on the chin better. I believe it was you who bragged that Manny Pacquiao was easy work. Now you are using ALLEDGED steroid use as a wedge issue. Need I remind you that Juan Manual Marquez came up from 120 and prior to his fight with you, knocked out the likes of Juan Diaz, Casamayor who are neither pushovers. Yet you never made a case against him. Does the fact that he was able to stop fighters you couldn't or stopped fighters sooner than you could send a chill up your spine? And since when did the testing guidelines of the NSAC not meet your satisfaction in all of your previous fights that you decided to bring in an organization that only deals with amateurs? While no boxing fan is a fan of cheaters, and would not like the fact that Mr Pacquiao bent the rules in order to gain an unfair advantage, was it not YOU who came over the weight limit in your last fight also refusing to allow yourself to be weight fight night? Was it not you who forced Ricky Hatton to come up to fight at a weight even he said he had no business fighting at when he visited that weight class once before? You are no stranger to trying to gain unfair advantages Mr Mayweather, it I believe you have tried to gain an unfair advantage as far as public opinion is concerned while casting doubt on Manny Pacquiao while failing to disclose the fact that this REALLY didn't become an issue until it was stated for every pound you come in over the 147 limit you would be fined $10 million. With the 35% tax bracket you are in on top of the money you owe Al Haymon and Golden Boy Promotions, you couldnt dare risk coming in at the agreed upon weight. And because of your inability to yourself fight with a level playing field, you are trying to turn the public against Mr Pacquaio by accusing him of something that originated from.....your father. But the clock is ticking Mr Mayweather. Your golden goose is about to fly the coop and your options for big money fights means you are now faced with the possibility of REALISTICALLY risking that undefeated record against someone who can take it.

    ~Fade to Future~

Knock Knock....Who's There....The ENTIRE Welterweight division. Guess what Mr Mayweather? The Pacquiao fight has passed. And now you are left with a pile of debt, an impatient HBO who doesn't want to pay you for any more garbage opponents, and a host of high risk, low reward opponents. You have the winner of Mosley/ Berto. You have Paul Williams who's promoter just announced is dropping back down to welterweight. Joshua Clottey who is sitting on the pine. Louis Collazo. A returning Antonio Margarito. And none of them, with the exception of Mosley if he gets by Berto, is a 8 figure opponent. And while none are 8 figure opponents, all of them are a risk to your 0. So basically Mr Mayweather, your goose is about to get cooked. At the stroke of midnite of Bob Arum is a man of his word, you will be like the male Cinderella. Your Maybach will turn into a pumpkin unless of course you want to deal with the aformentioned fighters. And personally, I would MUCH rather see you fight someone your own size or bigger at the welterweight limit. But then of course, there is another undefeated fighter out there I hear you got your eyes on. He is a Pound4Pound fighter and is considered one of the best technical fighters in the business besides yourself. And it makes perfect sense for 2 undefeated fighters to risk their undefeated records. So I am sure in the future if this fight with Manny doesn't get signed, you will try your hardest to sell your next fight with none other than the Boriqua Beast Ivan Calderon. Wake up Mr Mayweather. Sincerely, Thornell Johnson
