Opinion: Mayweather's Boxing Legacy Is On The Line

Mayweather's Boxing Legacy Is On The Line
    Dec 23, 2009 by ■ Edwin Ladaga

Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, has issued an ultimatum in less than 24 hours to drop Mayweather's demand on Olympic style testing or the highly anticipated boxing clash between Pacquiao and Floyd Jr. will not happen.
Pacquiao has proven time and againt that he is a fighter who fights quality opponents like Barerra, Morales, Hatton and Cotto. The same cannot be said of Mayweather, who is known for ducking elite fighters like Mosley and Margarito.
Mayweather needs the Pacquiao fight badly in order to silence his critics. Beating an elite fighter in his prime would solidify Floyd's claim that he is the best in his generation.
The Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown is a fight that Money May holds several advantage already. He has the height advantage and possesses a longer reach than Pacquiao. He is also the bigger man in this fight and had fought bigger guys like Oscar De La Hoya in 154 pound division. His hand speed is known to be as quick as that of Manny. His defense, counterpunching skills and the ability to think and adapt as the fight goes on are amazingly pleasurable to watch.
But still Mayweather is demanding unnecessary drug test procedures by subjecting Pacquiao to an Olympic style drug test. Is Floyd doing this to gain a psychological edge? Is he throwing off the Pacman's training regimen so he can gain more advantage?
If the anticipated Pacquiao-Mayweather boxing showdown fails to happen. Mayweather's claim as the greatest fighter would have a big question mark.
Mayweather cannot afford to let go of this fight. He would not only loss an opportunity to earn at least $30 million dollars, he would also miss the opportunity to be the best fighter of his era.

Won't do much for his legacy like the article says.

Mosley is A) Not in his prime and B) Old.

At the end of the day people will make excuses like this.

If Mayweather beats Pac legit, there is not many excuses to be had.

Mayweather already has a great legacy, all he could do now is add to it.

The majority of the boxing world believes he hasn't challenged his abilities as much as he should have.

In laymen's terms, people think he cherry picks. The Marquez fight did nothing but support these claims.

You're funny. He ducked Margarito and Cotto in an instant. Why don't you think he won't duck Mosley?

Blood testing should be the norm in boxing, with so many designer drugs on the market. Pac should jump at the chance like this to clear his name as well, and quiet the roid rumours. Also how come people seem to forget that Mayweather will be taking the exact same test?

Yes yes, Pacquiao would be the greatest of all times if he beat Mayweather. If Mayweather wins, it was just expected. I love this nuthuggin.

I can't count on my fingers how many fighters Floyd had already ducked.

Not all people have been fooled by this Fake Gayweather. Some of his stans are dumb to be fooled by an idiot.

*******s, go wash the sand out of your vaginas.

                    Okay, you're back? Good.

Manny Pacquiao should have nothing to lose with this testing. Nothing at all. If he were clean, this wouldn't be an issue. I still don't know why *******s don't want cheaters to be caught.
