Juanma Says Pacquiao Should Agree to thetesting, Eyes SFW division for 2011

Juanma Lopez said yesterday that not having to sacrifice to make 122 pounds has him traning ibetter than ever for his upcoming bout against WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano.

"I feel much better at this weight," he said yesterday Juanma, who will challenge Luevano on Jan. 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Yesterday in the pre-weight in supervised by the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico (Cbppr), Lopez weighted 139 pounds, well below the 144.9 pounds (15% above the agreed weight) recommended by the Cbppr one month before the fight.

"I had breakfast, lunch and look at the weight we gave," said the undefeated southpaw puncher soon after getting off the Romans.

The weighing was held in the fitness area Jose "Cheo" Aponte, in Caguas, where Juanma trains daily under the supervision of his handler , Orlando Pineiro, and his coach, Alex Caraballo.

"If I had to do 122 pounds for this fight, I'd be in a diet," said Lopez, who said he was fully recovered from his newly sprained right ankle.

"The ankle got infected but it's okay," the champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) at 122 pounds. "We're starting to run again. It will not be problem in the fight. "

Lopez said the four extra pounds that he will have for the fight againstLuevano's WBO featherweight title have helped him work again incorporate weights to his workout.

"I feel stronger," he said of his first training for a fight in the featherweight division.

"Those four pounds Juanma will help enormously, and you'll see in the fight," in turn, Pineiro.

But that does not mean it will stay long in the 126 pounds, said the veteran coach, who has been linked to the career of Juanma since the charismatic left-hander started in the amateur.

"The plan we have is to win the title in January and go right to a defense on the weekend of the Puerto Rican Day Parade," said Pineiro.

"Then a big fight at the end of the year, for up to 130 pounds in 2011.

Although no concrete agreement, Pineiro did not rule out unification later this year with the Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa, pen holder of the World Boxing Association (WBA), and who costarred in the evening of January 23, measuring Rogers Mtagwa.

Mtagwa come to give serious problems Juanma on 10 October. The Puerto Rican beat him by decision.

"It's not in the plans, but there is the possibility of facing Gamboa later this year," said Pineiro.

Juanma also expressed about the possible fight with commentary pen Ponce Mario Santiago.

"Mario has made comments that are willing to fight me. I am also willing to fight him. But that's not it, "Lopez said. "Mario is a great fighter, but not a great name. Boxers have to fight with people known to know him and the fight is attractive to the public, not only in Puerto Rico. "

Sounds like he's having an easier time making weight. He should be stronger but he shouldn't fight foolishly against luevano like he did vs Rogers. If he fights smart he can stop him late or win a ud. War Juanma!

Then he should just take a blood test. He should do it now before he fights Luevano.

I agreed with Juanma, you got to take the tests for the good of the sport.

He says he has no problems if his opponents asks him to do it, but both have to do it.

Dont know why fighters like Juanma or caballero kill themselves to make the weight, After 9 rounds they would have gas a little bit and its just not healthy. Am glad he's moving up and he doesnt need to worry about his punching power while moving up be healthy first and foremost.
