That law protects private citizens from libel charges, however, since SR. is a public figure himself he does not receive those same protections. I remember going over this a few months ago when some politicians passed a resolution defaming a radio talk show host.

so now public figures don't have as many rights as normal citizens?

you see it all the time...ppl accusing other figures or using drugs or being a whore...none are ever brought infront of court...

one exception is if the false statements constitute slander per se

why do u think no defamation cases have been brought against jose canseco who revealed hundreds of players in his tell all book...is he not a public figure also?...they have a public figure privilege as well
