BoxingScene.com has heard that HBO is considering a tentative date of April 17 to bring back IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. No opponent has been set. Two names being thrown around are Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlik. Based on the recent chatter, neither of those two are going to be the actual opponent. Pavlik has no immediate plans to leave the middleweight division. Hopkins will not drop down to 168. There in some interest on the side of Bute to fight Hopkins at 175. Bute and Pavlik will not happen. Pavlik does not belong at 168 and Bute's style would give The Ghost great fits.
Bute and Hopkins is a ridiculous fight that I am not interested in seeing and I hope none of you are as well.
Allan Green is a great talker yet has done nothing to prove he belongs in the top ten of the super middles. However, that is an option for Bute.
Along with Allan Green, there is also Sakio Bika, Robert Steiglitz and Jesse Brinkley.

I think they'd lose if they competed with the Super Six on that date. Two high quality fights against one? Not that hard to choose.

If he does have that date it will most likely be a WBO/IBF unification fight. I mean who the hell is there of more note for either Miranda or Stieglitz to fight anyway after their fight other than Bute?

Bute is a big draw and sells tickets for every fight no matter who the B Side is. i tell you the truth they should want boxing to thrive as a whole cause it can only improve the sport. If Showtime is putting up good events thatn that forces HBo to do the same. Bute is a Champion at 168 and would be well suited to headline a good event on HBO. HBo should take a notcie to what Showtime is doing and get some good cards not just single fights and put them on like the double headers Showtime is giving us.
