Revisionist history: If Cott had beat Margarito, is Pacquiao the same star?

I know this is all hypothecital, but hear me out.

IF Cotto had beaten Margarito, all signs showed that De La Hoya would've fought Cotto. But of course Margs beat Cotto and that fight was out the window.

So instead of fighting Marg, De La Hoya chooses Pacquiao. Pac proceeds to batter Oscar and a superstar is born. Pac then goes on to destroy Ricky Hatton and win a WW title against Cotto.

So IF Cotto had beaten Margarito, would Pacquiao be as big a star as he is today?

    If no, why not?
    If yes, how?

Please also include what YOU think may have happened IF Cotto had won.

I know this is all what if, but entertain the question.

Cotto would have fought De la Hoya, pacquiao would prob stay at 135 a while longer and rematch JMM. I still think he would have ended up fighting Hatton though, so he would still be quite a star.

I agree with the Hatton thing. I think that fight had been looked at for a while.

I'm not sure if he goes to 147 though.

if cotto won he would have fought DLH is a superfight mexico vs puerto rico
cotto would have beaten DLH then de la hoya would have retired
Pacquiao would have fought JMM at 135
Mayweather would have then come back to fight Cotto

Pacquiao struggles with JMM then goes up to fight hatton
........pac probably still becomes a superstar but with no DLH upset on his resume....heck maybe a loss to JMM at 135

This is just my opinion, but I think Cotto lost a piece of himself to Margarito & I think it's pretty sad that he may have been beaten with brass knuckles to boot!!Now to the big stuff,if Cotto had beaten Margarito,I believe he would have fought & beaten Oscar,do to Oscar being old & shot!!Cotto would have also probably beaten Clottey more spectacular & Pacman would have been in for a rough night against him,if they had ever fought to begin with!!
