JMM VS PAC 2-RD 8-Turning Point

Many wondered why JMM never was a mexican legend ala the Morales and MAB who always seem to be bigger than him in stature. All we need to do is look at RD 8 of the 2nd Pac fight. Early in the round he badly cut Pac's eye and danced around instead of exploiting it. The final punchstat was 21-5 JMM but it could have more decisive in the RD. JMM had to realize the fight was close and he had been KD. He could have even had use a stiff jab on the eye while moving away from pac's left. After the fight, pac admitted the eye bothered him and he couldnt see the right hook. If it was Morales or a prime MAB they would have been much more aggressive on the eye. If JMM would have been more aggressive it could have been a 10-8 RD and would atleast gotten a draw with judge Tom miller who had it 113-114 for Pac. I still think JMM should have atleast gotten a draw but he could put the exclamation point on that fight.

After RD 8 in the corner-Cutman Chavez saved pac's eye and the great op****unity was squandered. This is the difference with Pretty Boy Floyd who will take advantage of opportunities. When PBF gets hurt he comes back with fury as does Morales.

When JMM outboxed Chris John he needed to go for the KO in indonesia but he let the judges give John a homecooking horrible decision. When Pac fought MAB in Texas; he didnt take such risk even while winning the fight; he went and got the TKO in RD11.

I respect JMM as a great fighter but he always falls a little short due to the killer instinct in those big fights. He understood that with Casamayor & Diaz and got Ko's in those fights.

Marquez attacked very smart body and head. Pac looks very uncomfertable in the round.

Marquez isn't considered a legend by some cause while Morales and Barrera were in wars Marquez was putting on boxing clinics against his opponents. Marquez is a legend but he didn't receive the same love as Morrales/Barrera because those guys chose to brawl even at times when they didn't have to

"Kevin’s Scorecard - 112-114 Chris John. The two point deductions lost the fight for Marquez, otherwise in my opinion the fight should have been a draw."

"It wasn't as one sided as his defense against Derrick Gainer a year ago but John handily retained his belt on all three ringside judges' cards by keeping the accomplished Mexican opponent at the end of his punches and making Marquez pay for each incursion into the Indonesians territory"

Scott Mallon - The Ring Magazine and TSS (according to Boxrec)
" I think the scores were 8-4 John and I think that it was fair. Maybe it could go 7-5 but the rounds were close and for me, it’s very difficult sometimes because I’m watching though the camera. So when I see something I see in the beginning maybe he (Marquez) won the first and second round. The next couple of rounds John was boxing well and the later rounds he came on."

"The only western journalist to attend the bout, Scott Mallon of Ring Magazine and The Sweet Science, scored the bout in favor of John. His report and those of the Asian journalists in attendance suggested the bout was a just decision."

Judge: Oscar Perez 116-110 - Hispanic Judge
