Referee Kenny Bayless compassionately rescues a thoroughly beaten Miguel Cotto at MGM Grand
AP PhotoLAS VEGAS—From haters and skeptics to sworn true believers. That’s the transition some boxing media types made after seeing Manny Pacquiao completely demolish Miguel Cotto in 12 rounds Saturday night at the MGM Grand Hotel.
"He ought change his name to Superman," fight promoter Lou DiBella said. "He fights like he is Superman."
And those loyal residents of Pacland did not mind stomping on Megamanny Doubters in the wake of a bruising fight in which the winner went to sing in an outdoor concert at Mandalay Bay and the loser was taken to a local hospital to get checked out.
Ref Kenny Bayless had just rescued Cotto from a sustained beating that his confused corner should have stopped two rounds before when I saw Dr. Greg Penilla of St. Louis, my friend and a Manny supporter, hovering above me.
“Where’s Ricardo Lois (ex of ******************.com and now of Boxingtruth and our LA Boxing Examiner) now with his opponents making Pacquiao do the crackhead dance?” Penilla shouted.
“I will never doubt Manny again,” Jose Martino of Boxeomundial.com and a proud Boricua who naturally favored Cotto said. “Manny has more than proven his legitimacy. He is the man.”
Humbled John Chavez, the Boxing Bookie from Boxingtruth, has also met Jesus and come over to the Pacquiao Worldwide Army (PWA).
“The Boxing Bookie loved the underdog but I guess I didn’t know the size of the fight in the real dog which is Manny. Manny was sensational in there tonight. Mayweather has to grow a pair and fight Manny now. It’s a public demand fight now.”
Chavez’s lovely lady friend, a Pinay nurse name Marrian, just laughed. (And what is so rare as a Filipina who is a nurse, I ask you?)
“John was a heretic but now he found the Pacman religion,” she said. “John had to learn and he learned why we love our Manny tonight.”
BTW, where’s #1floydfan and all the other regular haters?
And, as for the fake Bernie Vee who maligned me for not predicting a Manny KO, you look ridiculous, son, as this fight was only two minutes and five seconds away from being a full, 12 round gone to the scorecards decision fight.
Come on out to play, you haytas.
