sure was a great fight! the 8th round is my favorite, i can watch it over and over and not get tired of it. I remember my house was full, we had a big cook off like we always did when dat boy oscar fought, my dad was a huge oscar fan.

i kinda wanted vargas to win becuz everyone was rooting for de la hoya where i was at...but that lil overgrown widow's peak had me rooting for de la hoya

I picked DLH in 9. It was a very good fight, and I was rooting for DLH, so it was a great night of boxing for me.

There was a lot of speculation beforehand that Vargas was damaged goods, in fact Lampley even discussed it on that night showing highlights of the Trinidad fight. I remember during the fight thinking that Vargas was looking pretty formidable and better than he had in the previous 2 bouts (Rivera, Flores). While not 100% of what he once was, I thought Vargas would've beaten just about all the 154 lb fighters in the world that night not named Oscar or Winky.
