Comments Thread For: Cotto vs Foreman a Big Posibility For Next Year

    Wednesday, December 16th, 2009
    Carlos Gonzalez / Primera Hora

Miguel Cotto is demure when asked about what happened in his personal and professional life during the past 12 months.

In February, he won the WBO welterweight title in his first fight since suffering a defeat at the hands of Antonio Margarito in July 2008.

Soon after, he broke up with his uncle Evangelista Cotto, who at that time was his trainer a argument-ending in a fight in the gym in Caguas Bairoa about the possibility of moving practices to Tampa, Fla., for combat against Joshua Clottey last June.

In November, he suffered the second defeat of his career, this time against Filipino Manny Pacquiao. The event achieved sales of 1.25 million on HBO Pay Per View.

At this time, Cotto, along with several family members, is in the midst of a sexual harassment suit in federal court.

How resumes in 2009?, He was asked.

"Very good. Apart from the last result last November, I am very happy with what was done during the year and ready to start working on my final year in boxing, "Cotto said yesterday.

In fact, the boxer insisted again that 2010 will mark the end of his career in the ring.

"I will make a fight in the summer and depending on how I look from that, there would be 1 more then," said Cotto.

One possibility would be to challenge lurks Yuri Foreman, WBA junior middleweight(154lbs) Champion in New York.

"We still have not had any conversation with Top Rank. We're hoping that this Christmas period elapses then sit down and talk, "said Cotto.

We dont rule out going up in weight. "These are things we are considering. I'm open to everything, "he said.

He should, I'm pretty sure he whoops Foremans ass and gets a belt at 154.

I thought that it was a good discussion of Miguel and I think that he should fight about 2 more times then bow out. I agree with what you were saying, I would NOT throw him in there with another killer so soon man, especially NOT in June for the Boricua day parade, that would not be smart. He needs a comeback fight that can build his confidence for one last big fight. I actually wouldn't mind Miguel trying to campaign at 54 for his last two fights, then retire and live his life. A comeback fight at 54 against a Yori Foreman wouldn't be bad actually, IMO.
