A Question for PINOY Boxing Fans...

It's obvious why Manny Pacquiao is a national hero: he has done great things inside of the ring, he is a likeable guy, and he has a passion for the country.

Why doesn't Nonito Donaire get more love?

Donaire is a nice-looking kid who speaks good English:

          I have no idea.

I'm basing my question (slash ignorance) on the boards, online presence, fight presence, etc.

To my mind - performance aside - Nonito would seem as if he would have greater cross-over appeal. But some barriers:

              1) he fights at a low weight that folks are generally not that interested in.

              2) He fights on Showtime

              3) Lack of "name" opposition.

chups, you say "after Pac". But dude is 28(?) and little guys have short shelf lives. Usually.

Oh I see... I sometimes get the sense that they follow Donaire, Viloria, and Sonsona. I remember some Pinoy's was talking mess about Mayol beating Sosa. So I don't know. I just think That Pac is such a hot topic right now that is there main focus.

For me this guy should be in the headline because technically he is brilliant but i guess they cant have two stars at the sametime which is sad really, But isnt Donaire american?? or grew up in america?? If so that might be another reason why he isnt as popular as Pac in the phillipines.

From what I hear Donaire grew up in the bay and trains out of San Leandro. He has skills and I think its only a matter of time before he gets more love. It's a shame a lot of Pac fans only care about Pac and don't try to learn more about the sport and other fighters. And yes his wife is a dime... she could get the business any day lol check her in the video
