    According to Steve "K9" Kim.

    for their 'Championship Boxing' series:

with HBO cutting their boxing budget, this is a great opportunity for SHO to stepup

i just might have to cancel HBO and reorder SHO

The Super Six will bring us 3 of those fights alone. The tournament has brought them major interest. They chose to invest in a division while it was hot and get the fighters and promoters to sit down and make it happen. Major props for that!!

The fact they have Tim Bradley signed to a deal helps them out. he is undoubtedly the best at 140lbs right now. It would be nice to see him more active and land another good fight. If they could schedule it for the first quarter of 2010 maybe sometime in late March early April that would be great.

Valero is exciting has made a name for himself and is being talked about everywhere including these boards.

Marquez vs Vasquez might have had more interest a little bit sooner but I am sure they will replay the previous fights and gain some interest in the fight as the date draws closer.

In light of everything you have to attribute Showtime stepping up running parallel with HBO falling off. The fact that HBO had a major drought last year due to scheduling dates with GBP and having issues with most of them. Losses to Ortiz, El Perro and set back with Kirkland and Pavlik. All these things have factored into Showtime being able to do what it is they accomplished thus far.....Lefty

Is it confirmed HBO is cutting their budget? I thought it was only Thomas Hauser's HBO hating ass saying that?

The only and most recent article I see is the one you speak of HBO and Boxing - At a Crossroads I do not see where HBo confirms or denys this. It seems they have made some porr decisions in 2008 and 2009. They went into bed with GBp as I stated and some dates were cancelled or postponed. This might have caused them to lose $$$ on some deals and give up some other fights they may have been able to bid on by reserving those dates for GBP and their fighters. Boxing needs to make more competitive fghts and get a more active schedule overall. The fact they are now showing fights on other networks including verses and ESPN more often helps the overall cause....Lefty

Overall I think HBO did a good job this year with the fewer PPV's and putting pressure on promoters to make better fights. I also liked the fact they are trying to educate the fans a little more with those little intro's before the fight as to who the champs in the divisions are. They just need to make a "we buy fights attitude" If you're not willing to put up your fighters against the other top guys go somewhere else.

Showtime is a better deal for boxing than HBO.

Think about it. HBO gets all this credit for putting on mega fights, but it's not like those fights are included with the HBO membership.

All Showtime fights are free with the membership. Whereas most of the best HBO fights, you have to pay for.

I have really been impressed with Showtime's overall upgrade in production, graphics and talent since the inception of the Super Six. They really appear to be making a move. Showtime now needs to enter into the PPV market which they have let HBO dominate.

sort of is since they replay the PPV fights a week later. some wait and avoid results til then. or at least try.
